So it's safe to say if I can handle benchmarks, games for X amounts of time, that it's stable?
What do you guys deem safe for a core mV and memory mV? i've seen alot about up to 1250 for core but i haven't seen much on memory was curious if people are big on OCing the memory along with the core

If you can handle a benchmark with NO crashes or weird things on the screen then that is 100% stable. Honestly ive always been looking for the "safe core mV" for my card and ive found the most common answer is; if you overvolt your card you may see some degradation -- or NOT (depending on how much you overvolt it). And as long as youre staying well under what the card is rated to be as hot, then why not? Im not entirely sure how it is with AMD cards, but in the general sense... my 560ti is running at max mv (1.15mv) -- voltage slider put all the way to max in MSI afterburner, and the card never gets past 65C full load on games under water. It has been a year and a half now and i have seen no visual degradation on my video cards from overvoltage (because i stayed in good temps). Obviously if you overvolt the card and its always crashing and you just plain dont take good care of the card, having it run super hot all the time... you will run into some problems...

But honestly by experience, if you can keep your temps low (or within reasonable temp), overvolting your card should cause no real degradation. But everyone's chips are different, some will last longer than others, some will require an increase in voltage (even minimal) after a couple months/a year.... two years... to maintain stability.... "It really depends" but just watch your temps and anything that may look weird, and you should be fine OP. thumb.gif

I agree but it still doesn't necessarily guarantee stability does it? My 7970 i run daily use at 1125/1575 on stock volts (1113mv for my diamond) I've ran 15 minute bench of furmark and 45 minutes of kombuster (separately of course). Now i don't have driver crashes or anything of the sort, but i've had texture streaming/stretching in BF3, Dirt 3, and Bioshock Infinite. It happens on very rare occasions and goes away shortly and doesn't happen again, so it's not enough to cause me to worry, though i still might up the vcore just a tad. The GPU is so bottlenecked in BF3 i'm at 60% usage on average lol.

Sugar have you ever had any results similar? I find it strange that i can pass such extreme tests but still get irregularities like so in games. FWIW it only has occurred once in Bioshock through 10.5hr play through.

As far as OCing i'm not sure what kind of clocker i got because i haven't tested on water but i've benched at stock volts all the way up to 1150/1650, with a minor increase in vcore i benched at 1200/1700.

Edit

Didn't see TSM post about balancing, that could be the problem.

Dont really know. I only had stretching textures because some games dont have the eyefinity 'sdk' so they need to read it from the windows but sometimes windows mess up. Only wait to fix it was a new frash install of windows.

Now about your problems an unstable oc will result on colors stabs or artifacts. I have never seen texture stretching because of oc.
Maybe its your hdd? Dont really know..

That's a rather good thing to know. I'd rather it be something else than my 7970. Could be my HDD it's old, could just need a fresh install of windows because i've changed drivers and cards and could've screwed with something.

Might have to do a fresh install and try it.

Oh also to note after benching at 1200/1700 with no artifacts or colors i still had to reinstall afterburner and Trixx they wouldn't function properly anymore it was weird, likely corrupted software i guess.

I do 1175/1600 while gaming at 1.175v anything above 1175 no matter what voltage I get artifacts is that normal

Yes. It's all random luck if you get a good clocker. I have a 7970 that acts up above 1150mhz no matter the voltage, and a 7950 that does 1200 at 1.15v
