Should AMD make a Titan-like card? - Page 3

Personally I'm not sure why everyone is so worked up about the titan. The 690 is faster 1v1 and even 2v2 for the same price. Unless you grab 3 titans or more you robbed yourself of performance. I will give it the higher vram capacity but like most people unless you're running sky rim with 13,000 mods you won't even max out 2gb @ 1440p

What if they cut back on the compute power and gave us more of a beefier gaming card if you know what I mean ? redface.gif

Do most of us - general computer users use anywhere near the compute power of a 7970 ?

Everything he has said is pretty much spot on.  My only digression from his post is that I think that the 8970 will be competitive with the Titan. 30% more performance on the same TSMC 28nm fab is unlikely, but AMD is working on making refinements which will make performance/TDP ratio better for Sea Island.

Looks like my GTX 670 SLI may last me another year. Whatever AMD is releasing, it won't be a major upgrade from the 7970.

the 8970 will be 30% more performance for lots of Reasons
it will be 2 years from Launching 7970 to 8970 in that is a Enough time to do it
the whole gaming or the next generation games will be GNC and that is a big advantage

I don't think that's how it works.

the market the titan is in is very small, the money required to design and produce an AMD "titan" gpu is wasted

lets not forget the original titan gpu was sold as a work station card. were just getting the scraps.

Amd dont need a big die like titan. Because we like to have a competitor for titan thats doesnt mean that a company must reschedule all their planes to create a big die. Also dont forget amd have big plans(HSA).
