Website Button problem

Thread Starter
I dont know anything about web design, but I'm trying.

I've downloaded a free template, and I am editing it, I have created to pages 'About Us' & ' Contact Us' and I have linked the buttons using the link tool at the bottom of dreamweaver.

But when I view it in the broswer, I can click one page, e.g. Contact Us, but I cant click another, so it wont go back. So I am limited to clicking one page at the moment, and I cant understand why.

I am using dreamweaver, in design view.

Thanks in advance

You have to re-link the buttons for every page created.

Not quite sure how your link relates to your problem?

I'm only any good with HTML, so if that's what you're coding in, let me have a look and I'll see what I can do...

the link is the files and folder that make up the website, so you can have a look.

Oh right. Didn't realise .

Your problem seems like an easy one.

From the Index page, I clicked the "About Us" button, which is pointing to aboutus.html. When at the "About Us" page, I click "Home", but the "Home" button is also pointing to the aboutus.html. You need to edit the "Home" link on the "About Us" Page so it points to index.html and not aboutus.html.

Each page you set up will need to have the links set up to point to the pages that correspond to their names. I don't use Dreamweaver, I code html without any kind of WYSIWYG software, so I don't know how to fix the link problem in Dreamweaver.

On the aboutus.html page, the following is the code for the link buttons.

Code:
<h2 class="sidelink menuheader"><a id="sitemenu"></a>Site menu:</h2>
<a class="sidelink" href="aboutus.html">About Us </a>
<span class="hide"> | </span>
<a class="sidelink" href="aboutus.html">Contact Us </a>
<span class="hide"> | </span>
<a class="sidelink" href="aboutus.html">Services </a>
<span class="hide"> | </span>
<a class="sidelink" href="aboutus.html">Links </a>
<span class="hide"> | </span>
<a class="sidelink" href="aboutus.html">Products </a>
<span class="hide"> | </span>
<a class="sidelink" href="aboutus.html">Home</a>
<span class="hide"> | </span>
<a class="hide" href="#top" accesskey="1">Top of page</a>
See how they all point to the same page?

You could try editing the html page names in Notepad and then saving the file and opening it again with Dreamweaver to see if that fixes it. I don't know how this would work out with Dreamweaver though...

EDIT: I've changed the html file names for the links on the aboutus.html page.
See the attached zip. See if this works? I just changed it to the following. Should work...

Code:
<h2 class="sidelink menuheader"><a id="sitemenu"></a>Site menu:</h2>
<a class="sidelink" href="aboutus.html">About Us </a>
<span class="hide"> | </span>
<a class="sidelink" href="contactus.html">Contact Us </a>
<span class="hide"> | </span>
<a class="sidelink" href="services.html">Services </a>
<span class="hide"> | </span>
<a class="sidelink" href="Links.html">Links </a>
<span class="hide"> | </span>
<a class="sidelink" href="aboutus.html">Products </a>
<span class="hide"> | </span>
<a class="sidelink" href="index.html">Home</a>
<span class="hide"> | </span>
Easy enough . Hope it works.

Great! As I said, I don't know anything about Dreamweaver, but I know a bit about HTML code. If you need any more help, feel free to PM me and I'll do my best to help!

Always try Google first as working stuff out yourself is almost always the best way to learn. If you do get really stuck though, drop me a PM .
