which intel chip for my new gaming/video editing build?

Thread Starter
I am building a new machine for gaming and video editing, the games I will be playing the most are WoW and Dayz. I plan on using a program such as sony vegas to edit with. My question is which intel chip I should go with between the Intel Core i5-3570K or the Intel Core i7-3770K. Would the 3770k make that much of a difference with its hyper threading or will I see minimal improvements over the 3570k, should I spend the extra 100 dollars or put it somewhere else in the system? My spending limit on the pc is 1700.00 any advice would be great ty :bounce:

Get the i7 if you're doing video editing. The HT should be a significant improvement.

Yes, I think you'll be fine with the 660 Ti. It is pretty close to the 670, which is what I'm using and I've had a good experience so far. With the new GPUs not coming out in pretty much forever I think it's a good buy. Good luck!

If you're deciding between an SSD + 3570k or non-SSD + 3770k, go with the 3570k option. Isn't Sony Vegas GPGPU enabled, so CPU isn't so important?

Do you happen to live near a microcenter? Also, how long are you going to have this rig before you upgrade the CPU? If you are planning on it being a serious gaming rig and you want to future-proof it I would get a 3770k.

I know you're asking for Intel chip, but ever considered AMD? You could get a 8320/8350 and put the rest in a better GPU. That's what i would do, and it would be perfect for what you're planning to do with the machine.

As for the 3770k, neither Arma 2 or WoW utilize HT, AFAIK. The HT/extra cores would help with the editing, though.

edit: 1700$? 3770k.
