8800GTX and OCZ GameXtreme 700w - Page 2

Although I think you should be fine with stock speeds, but when your coming to slight OC's and more amp, voltage is needed from the PSU to the GPU's and CPU, it puts generally a bigger amount of load on the PSU then you think, causing it to work pretty hard, remember all PSU's are rated for peak performance when it means 700w's I'm not sure how much wattage your getting from a stable standpoint, you say your running fine, which is good, but if you want serious OC's the Silverstone 850W upgrade wouldn't hurt to do if you can still return the 700W. But, if your playing everything fine and you don't want to OC, the 700W is sufficient.

the 850W Silverstone will be enough. As I stated, K|ngP|n used that PSU to set his world record 3DMark06 with an extremely high overclocked X6800 (liquid nitrogen) and a pair of 8800GTX's.

That PSU cranks out 70A on the 12V rails, which is more than many 1KW units achieve (ok, take into account the load on the other rails, and that 70A might be a little less...but still a LOT).

That Silverstone will make you happy.

It's not Wattage alone that matters... it's also the max load on the 12V rails and how that load is distributed. For example, since it has an odd distribution along the 12V rails, the Enermax Galaxy 1KW unit will not be as good as this Silverstone.

Th 850 Silverstone is definately enough. However if you where to overclock your current setup with your current PSU without adding a GPU psu or replacing your Main psu you may run into issues.

If you already got the ocz 700, i would say just use that for now. Like others have said, your not overclocking yet so it wont be a problem. You can always use your psu for a few months and sell it.

Am I ok to OC the CPU atm? Not messing with voltages yet as I dont know enough, but will it matter that I have taken my CPU from 2.66ghz to 3.33ghz?
Also, I wont be messing with the graphics cards in the near future I dont think.... No need.

I'd say you're ok for now....

However, if you can replace now without incurring additional cost (except the price difference for the PSUs), I'd do so.

If you replace later, you'll get less for your OCZ....

The PSU has been with me for a week or so now as it was one of the first bits I got, also no bow or anything, so I think that is out of the question. I have looked up the 850w that has been recommended and it is going to cost me £165 delivered so I think I will stay as I am until the new year and get it then if this will last me till then.

Again, thanks for the help.

I think it gives the voltage a little high but not too much.

Off topic but... HOLY CRAP. Just did that test and all my stuff requires 680W. No wonder my system shuts off.
