You don't need a reason to return a product, I'm not sure how old you are or what stores you shop at but, if you are under the return policy you simply take it back to where you bought it and if they say "is there something wrong with it" or "why do you want to return it" you can simply say "I don't want it"

Stores don't have the right to refuse returns. That's why its a "XX day return policy" not "Returns only allowed if defective" policy.

Please don't give people false information. This fellow could be honest and tell them he's returning it because of coil whine and they have to refund him. If they say to contact the manufacturer he can be rude and say, well first refund me, then you call the manufacturer.

I actually received a SP850-m by thermaltake and same issue.. coil whine, but when under load 100% cpu theres no coil whine. However, since I'm not a fan of noisy power supplies. I'll be returning mine tomorrow at the store "because I don't want it" thumb.gif

I have a friend who had bought a silverstone psu with coil whine and a 7970 with coil whine, both bought from newegg, both denied returns for coil whine. Please don't give people false information.

Edit: Also, i've seen others on this forum, denied a return for coil whine.

How your friend proceeds has nothing to do with the result of a situation. I've returned so many things because "i did not want it"

you don't even need a reason. you create a "RMA" you send it with the prepaid package, they refund you, end of story

How do I return a product?
Published 04/02/2012 07:49 AM | Updated 03/13/2013 01:16 PM

To return an item, you will first need to request an RMA number:

Log into your Newegg account. If you don't have a Newegg account, click here.
Click Returns (RMA) on the left side of your account, under Orders.
Scroll down to the order with the item you want to return.
Click the Refund or Replace button next to the order.
Select the item you want to return, and complete the required fields.
Click the Submit RMA button.
You will receive a confirmation email with return instructions.
To purchase a UPS shipping label, please click here.

Ever wonder why newegg sells open box power supplies, monitors, video cards, rams, motherboards?
They don't open it themselves tongue.gif

Just last week I initiated an RMA (refund) with Newegg for a Seasonic PSU for extremely loud coil whine. Not only was the RMA approved, but I am not even being charged the 15% restocking fee.

was not this one was it?

No, it was their 400W fanless model. I replaced it with the same one, and the replacement does not have the whine.

I returned two Silverstone strider plus 850w model power supplys to newegg under rma, i included that the coil whine doesnt happen on another power supply and both of my rma's have been accepted without question. Even if they did falsely deny a rma/refund you could still get your money back easily.

If you have to RMA to Silverstone directly then they wont accept an RMA for a unit that has only coil whine, so just include something else.

It's a bad idea, as wrapping the PSU in a towel will only make it hotter. Heat is the #1 enemy of PSUs.
