I have a Windows 8 desktop PC and I recently migrated from a HDD to a Samsung 840 Pro 256GB SSD. The SSD seems to be running great and according to Samsung's Magician software, it is running in AHCI mode and using the 6GB/s SATA mode for optimal performance.
However, when running the AS-SSD benchmark utility, I am seeing an anomaly in 4K Read/Write performance. Here are my figures for the benchmark that I am getting:

When looking at screenshots others have posted with the same drive, most of my numbers look in line. However, my 4K READ/WRITE scores are about half of what everybody else seem to be getting. For example, most posted benchmarks that I have seen for 4K WRITE speed are just over 100-100 MB/s while mine is only hovering at 50 MB/s. However, my SEQ and 4K-64 scores seem fine.
I am seeking help in figuring out what is causing my low 4K scores. So far, this is what I have done to troubleshoot:
- AHCI is enabled and my drive is on my Sata 6Gb/S port
- Rebooted the computer and made sure nothing else was running
- Check Device Manager and toggled the Write Caching setting on and off on the Samsung drive (clicking ok inbetween changes)
Not sure what else is could be? I have a standard 1TB HDD on another Sata port, but it doesn't seem to be causing any problems.
My motherboard is a Gigabyte B75M-HD3 and it uses an Intel B75 Express chipset.
Thanks!
