(cnet news) Facebook Home isn't where your privacy is - Page 2

Quote:
The catch is that the more you share on Facebook, the more Facebook learns about you, and Facebook Home is designed to make you want to share even more.
The more you share on Facebook, the more stuff Facebook has about you. Does anyone think otherwise?
Quote:
"The number of times that you interact with Facebook or a Facebook-related service goes up. The number of times that you voluntarily interact goes up. I don't believe they'll be logging who everybody is, but they will be logging the voluntary interaction, checking in, liking posts," Soltani said.
Quote:
The number of times that you voluntarily interact goes up.
Quote:
voluntarily
OK then.

Also how else are they meant to use the data, for good or evil, if they don't log it? Of course they have your location when you check-in, that's the idea of the feature. It's not forcing you to do any more interaction, it's still ultimately the users choice.
Quote:
But unlike some pundits who say that it's too late to change the future, Downey remains optimistic for the future of privacy. "I'm going to go on a limb and say that people will have more privacy five years from now than they do today. People don't want this to happen anymore. The advertisers are going to fight this as long as they can, but people don't like being tracked and sold. Regulation is going to have to play a part in it. The cards are stacked so high against consumers that there's no other solution."
Don't you hate it when you get ads that are relevant to you? I love getting ads about gardening equipment or new aquarium products. Keeps life fresh.

(engadget) "Some of the discussion about Facebook Home since its debut yesterday has related to concerns that it gives the social network too much access to user's information, and now Facebook has responded. Its blog post specifies that Home is subject to the same controls as everything else in a user's Facebook account. It states that Facebook will not track user's location any differently than the existing app, and while it could see what apps are launched, it can't observe what actions are taken within them beyond the already existing Facebook API hooks. As far as information that is collected, it will have a list of apps that are in the Home launcher, and tracks data including which apps are responsible for notification, which is kept identifiable for up to 90 days."

win8 "live tiles" do you know what live tiles are, what there function is kookoo.gif

Also, why the hell anyone cares about privacy these days is beyond me. They could do all this with satellites and drones but it would be more expensive and they'd tax the crap out of you for it. (and they would) Yeah yeah I know we have "rights" let me tell you if you believe you ever had those rights you're living in a dream world.

Also, please point to the Win8 files that are trackers LOL what a joke. If you want privacy unplug the internet. The Courts have said that the internet (yes all of it) is a public domain. Therefor what you do here is public. If you don't like it. Unplug it. (Im looking at you knucklehead =) )

As you are aware most of us here are computer enthusiasts and if I'm spending many thousands of dollars on my rig I'm damn well going to make sure it gets well used.

mind you I have a $400 lappy and a brick phone...

I agree wholeheartedly with this. However, part of the OPPORTUNITY cost of owning such devices is some privacy.

A lot of people think posting everything on FB or any social media website is "cool". Just wait a few years and it'll come and bite you in the behind, hard.

,

yep, and now i want you imagine what happens when someone gets this facebook home thing on their phone and calls or emails or text, or "like's' ect. to your phone, since they collect contacts(which they do, so don't bother saying it), now your forced into the data pool, and will probably start getting a lot more spam than you used to.

i'm sure it's happened to some of you in the past with just email. you get your long lost friends email, or they get yours, and it's great to hear from them, then one or two days later, the spam just won't stop sozo.gif. sound familar to anyone blushsmiley.gif

go ahead and jump on the bandwagon,,,,,,whistle.gif
