[PCPer] Frame Rating: GTX 660 vs HD 7870, plus HD 7790, HD 7850, GTX 650 Ti BOOST - Page 3

I wish I had the money and hardware to do such a review.

Believe me, my reviews would be unbiased. (You clearly see some Fanboyism in this ginger kid sarcasm and comments, especially on forums)

Single GPU = AMD
Dual GPU = Nvidia
Triple GPU = AMD
Quad GPU = AMD

It has been proven that adding a third and fourth GPU in the equation removes the stutterring on AMD side, but add some scaling issue on Nvidia side. (Of course with capable cards such as HD 7870 XT and higher and GTX 660ti and higher)
see below

And don't forget, AMD will respond to this and will have a fix eventually.

AMD has promised to fix this, and we are going to hold them to it. We differ on how dramatic an impact runt frames and dropped frames have on the user experience, but they are not denying that there is an issue many gamers are seeing. That's the good news. The bad news is that it may take until well into the summer to see something from AMD that will start to address the concerns we have. But better late than never and we'll continue to push forward.

Our next step is to look at the many user-submitted solutions for this AMD issue including the full effects of enabling Vsync, applications like RadeonPro and how we can measure changes in input latency because of frame meter.

There are already solutions for it, it may be sometime Third-party solutions, but they are there thumb.gif

Do you still think PcPer was paid by Nvidia to do this review? If anyone is paying PcPer anything it's AMD, go figure.

For your Single GPU choice, Titan the fastest single GPU would like a word with you. wink.gif

7870 are around $250, and the 660's start at $200.

They should've compared the 660 to the 7850, but let's ignore that, the 7870 is just barely faster than the 660, not a big win.

Look at the single GPU results, I'll use charts that won't make your eyes bleed.

Probably just too much effort to test given how few people run those setups. Now that the tools are widely available though, I'm sure we'll see more varied testing in the future.

I'd be interested to see the results at lower settings. It seems like the problem is worse the harder the cards are working - I wonder if just turning the settings down a notch might help.

That graph you posted was measured with FRAPS, so it proves nothing.

First, the graph i posted was to show scaling issues on Nvidia side when there is three GPUs and four GPUs.

Second, It was not measuring frame latency but frame per second.

Third, I did not use FRAPS to make this (what makes you believe I did wth.gif )

Fourth, Unigine Valley average.

Fifth, I did the graph this morning with real data.

Sixth, post-flame-small.gifpost-flame-small.gifpost-flame-small.gif

Seventh, I love to see Nvidia users on a crusade about runt frames, especially when they don't own AMD and they only have single GPU. doh.gif (2010Rig)

I know. But FRAPS is counting dropped frame(ones that are never displayed) and runt frames that do not add to animation smoothness. Check this.

You have to keep in mind that the runt frames are still rendered by the GPU, they are just not well synchronized.

In most cases, enabling Vsync solve the issue with no performance lost. wait for AMD to fix this. Radeon Pro also helps sometime.

in some situations crossfire will start rendering 2 frames at the same time, so the frames finish and display at almost the same time, which means one can finish rendering, and be replaced by the frame from the second GPU less than 1ms later, even if it took 30+ms to actually render.
