Using a 7970 on an old PC for 1~2 months. - Page 4

Any PSU that's vaguely rated to 750w should be able to handle a 300w-ish system without even breaking a sweat. Not to mention the cost of buying a new PSU is going to be far more than the few cents/pennies/whatever he'll spend on the "less efficient" PSU.

Hate when a perfectly decent PSU is rated as "cheap", "crap" or whatever just because it doesn't have fancy fans, modular cabling, stupid blingbling lights or a certain brand name on it.

Just remembered something I wanted to ask yesterday, will my poor cpu affect the card capacity or will it run fine on games. I'm getting my new rig ~1 month can't wait.

Thanks to all for the response!

It will, but if you overclock it to 4.5Ghz ish you will be fine. It's not going to cause games to be unplayable, but when there are explosions or large battles the game will probably stutter. So spend some time overclocking it while you are waiting for your new card to come. If I were you I would just push a bunch of volts through it and go for a 5.5Ghz OC so it is dead by the time you get your new rig biggrin.gif

The stock I7 920 will bottleneck a 7970, but you'll still enjoy your games with it.

Oh I didn't even see that your BIOS is locked. Well, you will still be able to enjoy your games and once you get your new rig it will be that much better!
