its squeaky clean, what i have noticed is that if i go start -> shutdown it does the restart thing. but if i just hit the power button and it shuts down that way, it does not do it anymore. so i don't think its a hardware problem because it still shuts down with the saving your settings and all that but it does not restart.

To cover a base here...
Did you try bypassing the case ON/OFF swithch?
