I had a specific bit in there about AMD, but I didn't want to turn it into a discussion about AMD vs Nvidia so I deleted it before posting-

It was implied by the third sentence anyway.....and yes, profits for Nvidia, irrespective of AMD's situation, are still a good thing because investment money is either directly more plentiful, or becomes more plentiful with a higher stock price and higher demand for their stock. Profitable companies bring new investors, and more profitable companies bring more new investors or a higher stock price, depending on the number of shares they are willing to sell....both of which provide more money for R&D, and, subsequently, better products to market. Profits are a great thing.....and there is no monopoly yet.

So will these "GT3e" graphics be more impressive than the GT3 (hd4600) or less impressive?

HD 4600 is GT2(with 20 EU, HD 4000 had 16), HD5000 is GT3(40EU) and these HD5200/GT3e(40 EU + embedded Dram) will be more impressive than both, estimated performance is 2X or more from HD4000.

Almost certainly, however, a (mobile) part with twice as many execution units and 128 MB of L4/eDRAM at 1.2 GHz would blow Trinity out of the water in games. A comparison to Richland probably won't change much there. And we'll likely need to wait until 2014 to see how Kaveri affects AMD's position.
I dont know... I have good feeling about the HD5200 for AIO and Notebook/Ultrabook =)

Oh my. 40 EUs? It won't be as fast as a nice discrete GPU or the better AMD APUs, but it will be quite fast for integrated graphics.

If the benchmarks Tom's hardware showed where true, the HD4600 is still way behind Trinity's graphics capabilities. KitGuru ran an article showing what the game performance would be if GT3 was 2x faster than the HD4000. Even if it does manage to be 100% faster, it will still be about 20% slower than the 7660D offered in the A10 APU's.

Not to mention that Richland will be launching around the exact same time as Haswell, and the A8-6600K is support to feature all 384 stream processors that the current A10's have. Even if the A10-6800K only has a 10% increase in graphics performance, it's going to be well ahead of Haswell GT graphics.

ALL that being said, the graphics boost is going to be great for mobile users. If I didn't need a laptop right now for college, I would have waited for the mobile Haswell processors to be released. I wouldn't be surprised if the mobile Haswell chips outperform the mobile Trinity chips by quite an impressive amount.

Raw power isn't the only problem. Intel's drivers are a disgrace, games frequently don't run, crash to desktop, have artifacts or other serious problems that simply can't be solved by throwing ever faster hardware at the problem. And even if Intel managed to fix their problems AMD can simply put 1TFlop of performance in an APU, something Intel can't do.

nVidia aren't even in this picture because they lack an x86/64 license and they can't market Tegra as competition.

This is purely speculation. I would love Intel to produce something that performs this well because it would push AMD to release something even better but can Intel release this beast you speak of? We will see.

Actually the article alludes to them both making bold statements by using the words "The Claims", which shows they don't believe either, which is the right thing to do.
