Thread Starter
hello all-

so i have an nvidia card so i downloaded Ntune from the nvidia website. the thing has a dynamic bios action where i can go in and change teh CPU multiplyer. however, when i change the multiplier to 11x or 12 x it says in my bios that the thing is running at 11x with a frequency of 3200 mhz but when i run CPU-z it says it is still running at 2400. i dont understand this. can somone help me out? which one should i believe?

also, the cpuz says it still has a multiplier of 9x, and running at just under 2400 at 2399.9 mhz.. .the bus speed changes up and down from 266.

thanks-

id say believe what ur bios tells you.
you should only overclock in the bios.
and the best way to overclock your graphics card is coolbits

9x is the highest multi for that CPU. It's locked.. sorry

In BIOS it might state so (not actually running, but that's the applied setting). However, the CPU will force it back down to x9, and thus to 2400MHz. (probably overruling other settings made in that software also.)

and yes, overclock in BIOS. However, changing multi is not the common way to overclock. We just change the FSB (or CPU Frequency)

yes you can. Just change the CPU frequency (or FSB). this should be at 266MHz, and can easily be increased... Changing the multiplier is not a common way at all to overclock.

I currently have my E6600 running at 3.15GHz, and I achieved this by increasing the FSB to 350MHz (from it's stock 266MHz). At this speed, I don't need overvolting yet. (I am on a temporary mobo now, so not at my full overclock, which is 3.4GHz, or 378MHz FSB - but you'll need some extra voltage for that.)

Make sure of the following:

- LOCK your PCI-E bus and PCI busses at 100MHz and 33MHz respectively. IF your mobo only offers the option to lock PCI-E, then PCI is automatically locked also.
- Make sure the SATA frequency is also locked at 100MHz. Again, if this is not a separate option, locking PCI-E should take care of it.
