AMD A8-5600K OC'd to 4.3GHz will match up with Phenom II X4 965 @ 3.4 Ghz

Thread Starter
So I went to AMD fan day and got a free A8-5600K and an MSI FM2-A85XA-G65. Right now i have 4 gigs of ram, a very low end ASRock 960GM-GS3 that barely supports my Phenom II X4 965 BE, a Sapphire 7850 1GB. Is it worth to change into the high-end MSI motherboard and A8-5600K APU or will I just decrease the performance of my system? I am planning to OC the APU to 4.3 or 4.2 GHz so that the APU will (hopefully) match my Phenom II X4 965 BE @ 3.4 Ghz. And again I got it for free and i don't know what to do with it tongue.gif Thanks in advanced for replying biggrin.gif

This is the motherboard that i got

here is the a8-5600k stock (3.6ghz) vs the 965 3.4ghz

it manages to beat it at some things but its not that far off in performance from it in general

It uses about 50 percent less power too! I'd say go for it thumb.gif

so basically if i overclock the APU it will perform the same as the Phenom II X4 965?

Thanks

Nice to see the performance improvements over a 965. I was at AMD Fan Day as well, and my friend and I were shocked that they just handed these things out. Good to know they were worth it. thumb.gif

Edit: I also say improvement as in being able to match the 965 and have onboard graphics as well.
