Definitely excited about the 30" variant. Kind of hard to comprehend the ppi. lol.

Only problem with these TVs is that most cable TV companies out there are only just now adopting 720p broadcasts. Most aren't even broadcasting in 1080p. And considering the general population buys TVs to watch cable broadcasts, rather than 4k movies, its going to be a while before 4K tvs become mainstream. Its just like how even with 1440p monitors on OCN, its still not mainstream amongst enthusiasts.

Great point with 1440p monitors.

It's early adopters that force an increase in production (supply), which then lowers the per unit cost and price for the benefit of general consumers. And that's not even happening with 1440p monitors here at OCN... lol...

One other thing to remember with 4k2k displays, until they start using DP1.2 or HDMI 2.0, the best you will do with HDMI 1.4 is 30Hz @ 3840x2160.

Have you watched the Superbowl?? Do you honest think they shoot in 1080p then broadcast that ? ForA 4k camera's (and others) are typically used in sports... Then they can zoom/crop on individual players for doing referee checks / play by plays while still broadcasting crisp 1080.

In the workplace, 4k displays are a must for anyone in the broadcast industry working with raw sports footage. This is actually pretty exciting... a LOT better then using some 4k SDI input to 4xHDMI -> 4 displays.

Not OLED and therefore not the displays in question. TBH if you're buying just for the pixel resolution then there are much cheaper displays out there - personally I think the price would only be justifiable if those displays were OLED.

Maybe in 5 years we'll have 4K OLED in consumer monitors, or at least close to 1000$. But first I'd like even a proper 1080p OLED monitor that's not a 10000$+ Trimaster meant for broadcasting professionals.

Love the idea of more pixels as a concept. Hate the idea of running today's graphics quality for the next 10 years while hardware catches up,

if you evolved gaming graphics (through consoles and general GPU upgrades) over 10 years and were rendering at 1080p in 2023 then in theory an optimised game would be at least 2 or 3 times better looking at 1080p ? not through pixel count of course but in terms of game detail. Of course we cant stay 1080p forever but it would of been nice to get some sensible increases like 1440p mainstream for a while so that smaller screens and TV's could incrementally improve along with gaming hardware

now we will be in a position where Joe public doesn't really need or want a 4K TV so it will be a hard sell in the short to mid term and in that time upscaling will take over from native content which can often lead to a worse image and definatly takes gaming Off the Big Screen as input lag becomes too high
