ASUS VG248QE (144hz) Vs BENQ xl2420t (120 hz) - Page 2

Well hmm thid really makes things hard I could save 60 bucks if I go with the gtx 670 and another 50+ if I go with asus. But at the current moment I'm leaning towards the benq.

My question now is it worth spending the extra money on a 7970? ( I know it went from a monitor question to a you question. Sorry about that)
Depends on what you want to do. With the 7970 if your just running 1 GPU it's certainly the better option as it's clock for clock as fast as a 680, yet if you buy reference you should be able to hit 1125/1575 or better easily. Though going this rout you lose 3D gaming capability and lightboost, and at the moment AMD's CFX setups are having problems. If AMD fixes this stuttering problem and lightboost/3D isn't a must have i say the 7970 is the way to go. Having two or three 7970s at 1125/1575 or better would be great. So far i've hit 1200/1700 on stock volts though it wasn't stable i was able to bench.

All that being said it's a hard decision because lightboost is a desirable feature for a 120hz setup.

Well with that. I'm going gtx 670. Maybe 680 if I can get a deal and then the benq monitor.

Most of the AMD cards are voltage locked now.

Not seeing any good prices on Nvida cards at the moment. Back in Feb the best 670's (galaxy dual fan GC and gigabyte windforce) were selling for <350$ and the Galaxy 680 4gb was 500$-40$ MIR.

Wait for some sales. Last week the galaxy gtx 670 4gb was 440$-40$ MIR from tiger direct.

With the handful of awesome 670's that are for sell (FTW, FTW Sig 2, Direct CU II, & a couple more), it's not necessary to buy a 680 at this point biggrin.gif

Get Nvidia and the BenQ- maybe even the XL2420TX - because you can run it out of the box with the lightboost hack, because of the internal 3d emitter, which enable light boost in 2d mode smile.gif

Well that's why i recommended reference. Currently the only three i know offering reference 7970s are Diamond, HIS, and MSI none of those are voltage locked IIRC i know the Diamond isn't and the Diamond is the only "true" reference PCB left IIRC as well. It's also to note Diamond has the longest warranty (5 years) of those manufacturers and everywhere i look they clock great. Mine including 1200/1700 on stock volts is awesome IMO, can't wait to see what it will do on water.

Here's a EVGA 670 for 360$, 350$ after rebate..

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130782

For me personally while it's a hard decision I think i'll be sticking with my 7970s because ultimately i want as many frames as i can get and sure i'll have to wait for AMD's fix to their frame latency problem before picking up my second Diamond. That said 2-3 7970s OCed on water will give some great performance for a multi-monitor setup, assuming the fix comes. If it doesn't i'll be on the green team trying out 2-3 670s with lightboost. thumb.gif Either way it's going to take some serious GPU power for a triple portrait 120hz setup.

Let us know what monitor you end up with fanatic. The BenQ has my eye because of the thinner bezels and supposed better picture quality. Though i wonder if it's acclaimed 5ms response time is really enough to notice ghosting? I've never noticed it on the 5ms display i had.

Agreed, with the 670 being right behind the 680 for almost 100$ less and the 7970 (stock) being roughly on par with it. Especially if you intend to OC you can reach the performance of the 680 for less.

Hmm well im debating between a the gigabyte windforce x3 and the EVGA refrence blower card ( since EVGA's customer support is so highly praised.)

And that light boost hack sounds amazing drool.gif

But the tx version is just too dang expensive, Maybe in the future id look into getting the 3d stuff with it and try that out.
