Graphic card detection issue

Hi guys,

Last night I started up my pc, started up fine, no unusual delay etc. I was waiting for dropbox to sync, and suddenly the screen went black, but the pc was still on.

Waited a few min, nothing came back on the screen, so I turned off the pc.
Waited one minute, then started it up again, it started up, showed ram, hdd's etc. Then proceeded to "starting windows" screen.
It did take slightly longer to load.

Next the log on screen came up, but it was in a terrible resolution, it is not full screen, looks like full screen of a 15.6" laptop screen, all black unused pixels around the log on screen.

I then logged in, it did the automatic device installation thing, I checked what was installing and it said "VGA device" or something. After that finished, I right clicked desktop, and NVidia control panel was not there.

Went into control panel, and clicked on the NVidia icon, and it gave the message, "no NVidia card detected"

Went into device manager, and it said "VGA compatible hardware" for display devices, nothing NVidia related was listed

I attempted to restart a few times, and on one of the times I restarted, when it tried to auto install the device, it actually installed NVidia hd audio and some other NVidia related things, all except the display driver.

I have no idea what is going, as I have tried another card in my pc, and its the same issue - and old 9300gs, I know this card works, only took it out to upgrade. Hence I am assuming both my cards work, cause its the same issue.
All the times restarting, I had the terrible screen resolution.

Has anyone experienced such an issue? any fix for this, or is my motherboard toasted?

Thank you for taking the time to read this essay smile.gif

PS. I'm pretty sure it is not a software issue, cause I didn't try updating the driver recently

Try booting into safe-mode, uninstalling the nvidia driver, and then boot back into windows normally. See if the resolution problem remains. Windows should have a default driver that it will install, you wont have all the features of the card, but you should be able to support native resolution. If this is the case, download and install the driver from nvidia.

I just uninstalled all nvidia related software, but the native resolution is still not supported.

Does this mean that my motherboard is having issues with my PCI-e slot? maybe the controller for it died somehow?

I don't think you'd get half-the-time issues if it were a mobo controller issue. I would try just about anything to get it working.

Try this: http://treexy.com/products/driver-fusion

Then reinstall the drivers.
