New build won't boot with two monitors connected

Thread Starter
Hello Overclockers,
I just finished my new build and I have a minor issue. Whenever I try to boot my PC with two monitors connected it fails to get to the login screen, I sometimes see the mouse for a split second but it is otherwise blank. I believe the driver is crashing because I don't get a BSOD. It posts just fine and the whole boot up is otherwise okay considering it boots great with one monitor and will run with two monitors once it has been logged in with one monitor. I have two 1920x1080 LG monitors, one is connected with DVI and the other is connected with HDMI (due to the lack of dual DVI ports). I'd like to not have to crawl under the desk to plug in my monitor every time I boot my machine. I am using the AMD Catalyst 13.1 drivers and I am a long time nVidia user so I haven't yet learned the nuances of the AMD cards and drivers.

My Specs are...
- ASUS Sabertooth 990FX R2.0
- 16gb Corsair Vengeance RAM
- MSI AMD Radeon HD7950
- AMD FX-8350
- Win 8 installed on a Samsung 840 Pro SSD

Thanks for your help in advance...

Try uninstalling the catalyst control center, just leave the driver and let me know the results.

I use a 7950 and have never had this issue.

Try changing your primary monitor device. Perhaps there is an issue with the card and what needs to be set as primary.

Try dvi as primary then hdmi as primary.

Another thing you can try is download the beta drivers. 13.3 i think?

See if that makes any difference.

So danewfie was partially correct. I tried switching which one was primary and had no luck. I tried using an active Mini DP to DVI along with the DVI port and had no luck. At this point I thought I was hosed because DVI and HDMI are essentially the same however when I used the HDMI with the Mini DP to DVI it booted with dual monitors just fine. So I guess it has something to do with my DVI port, it's kinda weird using two DVI monitors and not using the one DVI port my card has. Something tells me my OCD and ADD are going to duke it out and in the near future I'll revisit this issue but for now I guess my problem is solved (masked). I did try the Beta drivers too, got some good performance increases but didn't help the issue. Thanks guys!

Just to sort of close this thread up all the way... I solved the issue completely. This graphics card needs a bit more time to fully initialize than was being given by the fast boot option in my ASUS Sabertooth 990FX mobo. All I did was disable fast boot (which only made boot about 2 seconds longer), and from then on all of the display ports worked flawlessly when booting up.
