If we're playing necro-thread, I can offer some opinions too in case people read it for info later...

- Asus has emulated EAX 5, Creative has actual EAX 5 (meaning that Creative will yield somewhat better effects while gaming)

- Asus has a better price/performance ratio than Creative

- The highest end cards from both Asus and Creative have noticeably better components than their lesser siblings

- The Creative Z series has slightly better components than the X-Fi series, but the X-Fi processor is almost 10 times faster than the Z. On a related note, the adoption of OpenAL has caused the processor on sound boards to become almost useless because it doesn't support most of the sound processing to be offloaded from the CPU (as it used to be), but CPUs can handle a lot more load nowadays without issue.
