X79 Memory Over 1.5 Voltage ?

Thread Starter
If someone please can clear this I have read online that it is recommended on a X79 motherboard you do not go over 1.5 voltage for the memory ram? I don't no how true this but this means the memory speed has to be like 1600mhz so why all these 2400mhz rams for then?

That's only for Sandy bridge CPU's, not SB-E.

1.65v is perfectly fine for x79.

Think about it, there are plenty of Quad channel sets of ram that are 1.65v. Quad channel ram only works in quad on x79.

I run 1.675v on my ram for 2400MHz cas9 24/7.

Thanks for that. You run your Corsair Dominator Platinum @ 2400Mhz cas9 ? is this the 16GB or 32GB kit? becuase the 32GB is 2400MHz cas10

I run the 2666MHz Cas10 16gb kit.

Can't you run it at 2666MHz ?

1.65V is perfectly fine for sandy bridge as well. Intel has never made a desktop platform that can't use at least 1.65V memory.

No one has ever done it, the world record for a memory overclock on x79 is barely over 2600Mhz, & that would take a very golden IMC.
I think pretty much all sb-e cpus will do at least 2133Mhz, & a good number are fine with 2400Mhz, but even 2400Mhz is not a certainty depending on the IMC of your particular cpu.
