Same, so many games are 15-25 gig installs now I care more about the capacity and the 960/480 sizes will still be plenty fast, especially where it counts the most, the reads.

After getting one of their v4 series a lil while ago I'll steer clear of their cheaper end offerings. The v4 was utter crap, slower than 5 years old lappy hdd once its ~70 % full.

Damn, nice pricing on the 960GB model.

Also just curious - those who are saying the write speed is too low, what do you need higher write speeds than this for?

OK, I finally figured out why the 240GB model has such "slow" writes: It uses 128Gb NAND chips instead of the 64Gb chips that most SSDs use. As such, the M500's 240GB model doesn't have enough chips to take advantage of the full capacity of its controller and performs much like 120GB drives with standard 64Gb chips.

Guys, come on. These drives will not break speed records. Let's make one thing clear: These are not meant to compete with the vector and 840 pro in terms of speed, period.

These drives are about speed and unprecedented affordable capacity. Find another 500$ 1TB SSD? You won't. The draw is the fact that you can get a 1TB SSD for an affordable price in comparison to prior drives. Furthermore, this brings an era of completely eliminating platter drives altogether. Currently in my case, i'm using a 1TB velociraptor 10k RPM drive in addition to a 2TB WD black. With 1TB SSDs becoming affordable thanks to the M500, I can see myself replacing ALL of my platter drives for data in the very near future.

Platter drives are dead thanks to the M500. For me anyway wink.gif

Video editing, audio editing, photo editing, archival, OS creation/deployment, etc#. When a 1TB HDD can burst 2-3x faster then their lower specced SSDs it's going to raise a few eyebrows.

If you want high speed get an 840 pro. The M500 isn't meant to compete for that market.

I plan on using a high speed SSD for my boot drive while using 1TB M500s for data. It is the first affordable 1TB SSD - i'll never use a platter drive again.

Thing is they do. Obviously not the TB model. Really hard to see the point of 120/240 GB versions when they cost as much as 840 Pro / Neutron GTX and have worse performance.
