Still, I'll wait and see what looks better this console gen....

That's my hopes too.

Developers want to turn down the costs and they will do more optimizations for AMD's hardware since X720/PS4 will have AMD's GCN based GPU's so less troubles, more performance and no latency problem's caused by a game. AMD will have huge revenue and considerable profit, if eight console generation sells well then they start making some profit...

Sony will sooner or later need a new handheld and they will look at AMD, Microsoft may also decide to enter handheld market and they will look at AMD. AMD will also conquer x86 tablet market since tablet's with AMD APU's will be cheaper than tablets with Intel's hardware and offer more performance.

AMD made a blitzkrieg and suprised nVidia and most likely also Intel... I can compare this event to era Athlon's reign applaud.gif

Better drivers, optimized games for AMD systems because they were built on AMD consoles (if devs keep porting to and from console). thumb.gif

Maybe. There's definitely a good reason why we can expect this. Easily better ports overall! But AMD optimized games? If anything, it'll just be a marketing thing for AMD. Nothing else, 1-2 years and the hardware in the consoles will be irrelevant...

Actually hardware in consoles for Xbox 720 and PlayStation 4 won't be irrelevant since they will have GCN based GPU's and GCN architecture will be around for at least next 3 or 4 generations and both consoles have an APU with elements of HSA technology so future AMD's HSA products will have an advantage over Intel's counterpart while also there will be no DirectX 12 for 2-3 years since developers din't even used the most out of DirectX 10 and 11 plus more and more people are switching to Linux and developers will use Open GL that is more open and adaptive for cross platform and AMD's GPU's have far better Open GL and superior Open CL performance.

DirectX does not work on Linux and Android is an mobile version of Linux plus Ubuntu OS on desktops and smartphones so Open GL and Open CL is the future Lacrossewacker...

Hopefully this will help AMD stay in the game for a couple of more years. biggrin.gif:thumb:

Anything that keeps Intel and Nvidia in check is fine with me.

Getting the console contracts was definitely a good thing for AMD. However does it have the power to save them? Unlikely. AMD's future still rests on what their high-end server based chips and enterprise products can do.

This is an area where Nvidia are making great strides at the moment and this is the reason why Nvidia, a company that doesn't even make x86 products, makes almost as much revenue as AMD, a company which makes GPU's alongside x86 based products. Last year Nvidia made $3.99bn (2012) with a net income of $581m whilst AMD made $5.422bn with a net income of -$1.183bn.....yes they lost $1.183bn last financial year (and Intel made a lazy $11bn net income last year). Not only that but Nvidia predict revenue to increase to $4.28bn this year with record profits and have increased their enterprise market (Tesla) from being worth around $25m in the first quarter of 2011 to around $200m - $250m last quarter (Q1 F2013). That's a remarkable increase in only 24 months and is one of the main reasons for why Nvidia is doing so strong at the moment. As you can see, consumer GPU's have remained fairly stable around the $800m mark per quarter until last two quarters where they increased to about $850m - $900m per quarter. So most of NV's current growth stems from their corporate and enterprise level solutions. I mean, a 10x increase in revenue (per quarter = a 4000% increase year-on-year) from their Tesla range in only 24 months is just astonishing.

That is where AMD are missing out. And until they cash in on that market, the $284m from the consoles this year won't be digging them out of the giant hole they are in. It will go someway, but AMD really need to get their corporate strategy mapped out and need to start making serious money on the enterprise level. Otherwise its goodbye AMD sadly.

Sorry to be pessimistic, but its a hard truth that people need to start realising. With the kind of money we are talking about here, the console contracts make up very little. I would love to see AMD turn it around, though I'm not holding my breath.

I think you're underestimating the power of console sales:P
