Going to Micro-center today and I'm between Asus gtx 670 SLI or EVGA 680 SLI. Funny story inside this thread as well.....

Thread Starter
Long story short, I sold my Gigabyte GTX 670 SLI 2GB to upgrade to something with more VRAM because Crysis3 was maxing out at 1440P. I purchased a Titan from Amazon Warehouse "used like-new" because they are out of stock everywhere. When I got home yesterday with love in my heart and a twinkle in my eye, I opened the Titan box to find a used Sapphire 7970 inside....... To add insult to injury the card doesn't even work.... After calling Amazon I had decided to mess around with it but no such luck. They of course are refunding me, I'm a prime member that spends a TON of money with them so they didn't question my story.

Now on to the present. I have a short vacation coming up in a couple days and no time to wait for another Titan to come back in stock. I'm using my intel hd 4000 right now...... So I'm between the new Asus GTX 670 4GB SLI and the EVGA regular 680 4GB SLI. Thing is, the 680 has a crappy cooler where as the ASUS has awesome cooling. Given that I do overclock to the max, which can I squeeze more performance out of?? I was happy with my Gigabyte;s minus the VRAM. They both hit 1281 and 7400.

P.s I won't be going with AMD. Yes I could get the 3x 7950 or 7970 but I can sadly see microstutter even on SLI. Thanks folks!!!

I wouldn't buy from Amazon third-parties... directly from Amazon, yea, but... third parties are like Ebay sketchy... That sucks for you to not get what you expected, but..... the Titan is pretty much sold out for a while, best chance was to pre-order them back in February.

Er, go for the 670 4gb, unless you want that little bit more performance and get 680 sli...

but really, a Titan would do. tongue.gif

Well... as you will not be going AMD you have 2 options... the 670 or 680 with 4GBram.
I think it is obvious though... if you want the best performance you can then the 680 is your only choice.

When you setup your SLI try to focus on the memory speeds more so than the GPU, as the Bus and memory are what hold the 680 and 670 back, and limit performance with the 4GB of ram compared to how a HD7970 manages the 3 GB of ram.

Ty guys, I just wasn't sure if the 680s that will probably not OC well due to poor cooling, would be any better than 670s with great cooling.

Yes... but overclocking to 680 levels... when you could just get 680's...
Now if you mean overclocking the 670's to the high end 680 overclocks, then OK smile.gif

Plus those MSI's are 2GB which defeats the whole purpose of all this. Thanks for all the replies though. I think I'm gonna grab the 2 680s and hope they can push the OC well. It seems they cool "ok" with the backplates they come with. Probably loud as a jet engine though, sigh.

They aren't loud at all, my single EVGA 680 is much quieter than my old Asus DirectCU II 560 Ti. You won't be disappointed smile.gif
