I sort of wanted to get a 6 core or above, just to say I have an hexa/octocore but since money is tight, I don't have that luxury it seems haha. I have been using amd forever, never had a chance to experience intel besides an old pentium 2 and a 2ghz core 2 duo in a laptop. I've gone amd because they are affordable, and preform well, but...It would seem that the octocore doesn't really preform better than a standard 3570k, at lower clocks and half the cores. Which is pathetic.

I want to use this for gaming, day to day tasks, with light video editing. Maybe mess round in photoshop/gimp a bit. Nothing too big. Frankly, I can't afford a new mobo every new CPU wih intel, and amd seems to be pretty straight forward. I will need to buy a new mobo regardless, and amd boards seem a bit cheaper. Honestly, I'm stuck >.< I'm pretty sure ill be happy with both, but for a similar price....I think the 8350 is a bit more future proof.

If you were in my posistion with an aging Phenom II x4 965 at 4ghz.... Where would you go? Stay at 4 cores and OC like crazy? Or get a less powerful, more future proofed CPU...and OC like hell.

If I was in your position....I would take 12core's advice and making a day trip to Microcenter. If Long Island is the closest one to you then its a ROAD TRIP. Purchase i7 3770k and call it a day. You know thats what you want....U dont even need to think about. If $$$$ is an issue, well desperate times need desperate measures and we've all been there. There was a time when I donated plasma 2x per week. at $60. That's $240 in a month. The cost of i7 3770k. If your really want something, you'll find a way to get it. Legally, I hope. As far as MOBO, I would get an ASUS or Gigabyte to go with the i7 3770k. Good Luck.

In real world use all the benchmarks fall part. I have never seen a game or app that was unable to run well because of an FX instead of an I5 being the chip.
