Which of these CRTs would you recommend? - Page 5

Here's a little secret when looking to buy a FW900
Its needs a 30 minute warmup to get a real idea of the picture quality of the monitor
The picture is usually a little out of focus or blurry if the owner doesn't know how to correct the problem most don't
He thinks the monitor is on its last legs..... let the bargining begin
Adjust the monitor picture to crystal clearity by adjusting the focus pods through the access vent grill in top of the monitor
Thats what the tool is for in the pic and I do it periodically

If you haven't tried lightboost on one of the new 1ms monitors, the experience is pretty damn close to what I remember on my old Trinitron 19". The colors aren't quite as nice, I suppose, but they look much better, use less power, create less heat, and can also display 3D Vision.

an people don't read or listen we are at like 5 or 6 people now. I do not have nvidia and buying a new computer/graphics card is out of the question plus i rather have a CRT because i dont have to drop 1000 dollars!!! on new gear and bother tring to configure it. a 10-20 dollar CRT is a much better option on so many levels...now if i can finda nd snag a FW900 for a couple hundred that is awesome

bTW rob...what if it makes noise and stuff? Isn't that out of the question because it is dying?

The VG248QE is $270 brand new on Amazon. And no $10-20 CRT will match it for gaming. The only CRTs that can match or surpass it are worth nearly as much on the secondary market as the VG248QEs are worth new. The FW900 is really the only one that I'd want to switch for if I gamed 100% of the time.

The lightboost hacks don't work with ATI cards, but lightboost can be enabled on a monitor with any computer with a nvidia GPU. The monitor will stay in lightboost mode until the power is unplugged, so you can switch the DVI output to an ATI card and have lightboost. Pretty clumsy solution, but it can be done.
