Anything I can do to extend the life of my gaming mice?

Thread Starter
My fourth Logitech mouse is dying on me again. This is ridiculous. They only ever last me 1-2 years. I think a premium product should last much longer than that.

Does setting my mice at 1k Hz polling rate stress it too much? I'm thinking if from now on I set them at 500Hz they'll last longer. Maybe disconnect my mice when not in use(like when I'm using a gamepad).

I was thinking of getting a Razer but from what I've read they die just as much.

For what it's worth, I've been using the same Microsoft Intellimouse Optical (not Explorer, but Intellimouse Optical) for several years now and it's still working perfectly. It has taken a hell of a lot of abuse too because I've raged thousands of times, slamming it down and sometimes even tossing it a bit (not too far though because it's wired). So, I guess I would recommend a Microsoft mouse of some kind.

I have actually never had a mouse die, the few I have had were Logitech's. I game around 10 to 30 hours a week depending. If I were you I would get the extended warrenty so they will just get replaced.

Hm, yeah thats crazy. I have never seen a mouse die. I think my parents microsoft mouse is going on 7 years, and my logitech is at at least 3 right now. I wouldnt be surprised if some of the mouses here at work are 10 years old with daily constant use.
I guess my advice would be to stop leaving them out in the rain. wink.gif

I have an intellimouse explorer that's been used for at least 12 years, so those are definitely durable. The only problem is that it has a pathetic max tracking speed. I think they fixed this on the newer models.

I don't know why yours are dying so fast; I abuse my Deathadder a lot and it still works fine. You could try a Zowie mouse, though; I think they are supposed to have a better build quality than Logitech or Razer.

You could always try to RMA them. Not sure how long the warranty is though.

I personally never had a mice die on me, but I change them quite often anyway tongue.gif.

Disconnecting the mice and lowering the polling rate isnt going to do anything.

My MX518 has been going 3 years strong, but I only use it for work. I just bought a Corsair M65 in Military Green to use on my gaming ring, freaking love the M65. Wasn't so sure if I was going to like it at first, but after using it for 2 weeks, I really like it. I play Planetside 2 mainly, and I play at 8200dpi with the in-game sensitivity set to 0. My mouse is so smooth and I can stop on a dime if I need to. My K/D has gone up significantly since I ditched the MX518 as my gaming mouse.

it this some kind of sick trolling? using a 150g+ m65 at 8200 dpi that is jittery as hell and its better than on 104g mx518 with 99.9% consistent sensor? =D

Well, if you play at a low sensitivity, the acceleration on that mouse isn't going to be all that pleasant.

The A9800 (IIRC) is actually pretty good in term of tracking accuracy, AFAIK.
