HIGH temps in new build - why?

Hello all,

This is my rig:

FX-8320 everything stock
Powercolor 7870 Tahiti LE (single 92mm fan)
8GB ram
Gigabyte 970 UD3 mobo
corsair 550w gold psu

Max temperature on the CPU is 64c and today my GPU hit 82c while on automatic ( i noticed that on auto it just didnt budge past 29%, it stays at low 60s @ 65% fan)

I just ordered a 212 evo for the CPU and it will get here tomorrow but I was wondering whether I should invest in better airflow of the case overall. Room temps are 75-80, sometimes probably 82-83 since I have 2 desktops. And I use AS5 thermal compound.

The only game I have played is BF3 everything maxed out.

I have one case fan in the back.

How off are my temperatures?

What case do you have and how do you have the fans configured?

Ambient temps will affect your overall temps. and if you're using the stock cooler, then the cpu temps seem to be right. I would manually set your GPU while gaming and set it to auto when you're not. Looking at the case you have now, I would add some side panel fans to help lower the GPU temps. How many fans do you have in your case?

I only have 2 fans in my case with a similar set up and my temps are reasonable for stock. That one probably just isn't moving enough air. I would put one in the front pulling air into the system and have the one in back pushing air out. biggrin.gif Would help create good airflow.

EDIT: Both of my fans are aftermarket fans and have higher CFM and lower RPM than my stock case fans.

Always aim for Low RPM and dBA and High CFM. Meaning, low spin rate and sound for quiet operation but high air displacement for higher cooling. You can fit a ton more fans in your case. I would put two in the optional front mount and put the rear as an exhaust. So front intake>rear exhaust. As far as fans go, I would check the air cooling forum to find good, affordable fans for what you need. Two good 120mm fans and you'll be good to go. thumb.gif The optional side panel fans could help with GPU cooling, but I don't know how much exactly.

Make sure you have enough clearance for the side panel fan.

I wanted to do something similar with a previous build, but the side panel fan sits directly on top of the video card, and it wouldnt fit. I had a CM690 no less.

Also that fan might be too loud, I'd aim for under 20dBa, but that's really up to you.

I got the 212+ evo in today and I am very pleased with the temps. So far max temp is 50c which is better than 68c max.
