onboard is crap. A SB live is alright, but its not using alot of cpu time which will make game smother and you'll see the differents right way. My friend did that and removed alot og lag from BF2, also if you have a modem that your not using disable it

Well according to Enterprise, "The SB live series hasnt actually got a fully dedicated Audio processor on it so it will still use your CPU for data processing. However it will still help a bit."

So the CPU is still doing all the work. Which won't make a significant difference when playing a game, other than sound quality.

Modem: 1. an electronic device that makes possible the transmission of data to or from a computer via telephone or other communication lines.

I guess he's just saying that you should disable hardware that you are not using to possibly free up some resources.

I just bought a Sennheiser headset, so there is a whole new world of sound to me. I should just an X-Fi.
If you want to spend money go ahead, if not try the SB live and see if it changes things for you. Do you really care about sound that much?

Har har.
I got big into gaming after playing Warcraft with my buddies over the modem. I loved those days when one swing on a tree took 30 secs.

I lost my modem a few builds ago.
