I'm more interested in how it compares to my ASUS ARES II. Still the fastest dual gpu card.
And still hampered with AMD's Crossfire drivers.
Here's the results of my ARES II:

not at all. after the initial delay from june, they didn't say a word about it until the day it launched. we just had a bunch of terrible (very accurate it seems) leaks from other sources.

Premium performance comes at a premium price. Dual GPU cards, titan etc. have bad price/perf but perform the best while cards like the 650Ti boost have the best price/perf but don't perform nearly as well.

The 680 is ~58% faster than the 650Ti boost. Why is it almost three times the price?

regardless of industry trends. Costs are set ultimately by consumers. If these cards stay at the rediculously high prices, it's because consumers (unwisely imo) bought it at the rediculously high price. But if consumers hold onto their cash and wait for prices to drop, then they have excersized their right to control the market.

I think $700-800 with this late of a launch could still be successful. A lot of the SFF guys would consider it, I d surely consider it and probably just give my wife my current 7970 or Tri-fire. It may not OC like (2) 7970s but being able to go mini/micro and only buy one block is a nice perk.

Yes it's quite quiet. But I don't think it's HTPC quiet, not that it was really made for such a system.
I'm using a Corsair H100 and I don't ever hear this card over that watercooling system.
If I had known the GTX Titan would be available the next week I would have bought a pair of those and not bothered buying this ARES II.
I would have also wished that I had.
I literally prayed for the 2 days it took for the Ares II to arrive, that AMD/ASUS, somebody had or would write some proper drivers for this card.
So far, the drivers are typical Crossfire in that sometimes they work very well with some games and totally suck with others.
The single EVGA GTX Titan I did buy has had no problem with any game I've thrown at it. Same with my GTX 690 and my pair of GTX 590's in quad-SLi.
Nvidia has the best drivers for dual gpu cards as well as single gpu cards. I guess they always will have the best.
Actually I'm quite happy with this ARES II. It's just that it could be the best card ever if AMD would sit down, take the time and manpower to write a proper driver set for it.
For what we paid for these cards that really isn't too much to ask.
The radiator is huge. I have a custom cut window in my Corsair 800D, with a pair of 140mm. fans mounted vertically on the back of the window.
The radiator for this card is so large that I had to remove the top side panel fan so the door would close.
The radiator fans are 120mm. The radiator is 147mm. wide right in the middle, where the top side fan on the door is located. That fan had to go.
I never could figure out a clean way to run all those hoses with both the gpu and cpu coolers so it would at least look halfway good and not obstruct the interior airflow too much.
It'll never happen with only 999 of these cards made, but I'd gladly lose the hybrid gpu cooler for a nice, fullcover waterblock.
If we're all lucky, AMD will make an excellent set of drivers for the proposed HD 7990 that will work with these ARES II's, as well.

Im with you on the drivers for the current 7990...... some work awesome ..some are horrible... but even with the awesome ones.. Its like there is still some hidden potential in these cards. lol by that i mean a run at 1000/1400 results are better than a run at 1250/1575, and vice verse .
And like you i agree with it being the best card ever if they would just give us drivers they actually sat down and took time to configure.

I wonder why New Zealand never actually released or why they've decided to use Malta as the codename now....?

Also, if the PowerColor Devil is any indication, this thing is going to suck down an insane amount of power. 7970's already make Fermi look efficient.

malta probably has that "boost" function. maybe it's even a revision of GCN. we'll find out in a few weeks.

I have to disagree on that statement: http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/EVGA/GTX_650_Ti_Boost_SC/27.html
http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/EVGA/GTX_650_Ti_Boost_SC/24.html
The 7970 GHz Edition has comparable power consumption to the GTX 580, while delivering a lot more performance.
