Is SLI truly worth it?

Just debating on whether I should take these cards back or not. I mean SLI does indeed improve performance in NFSC but I cant really tell in BF2, doesnt do squat for AQ3 scores though I havent really tested it in 3dmark06. FOr those that have used SLI is it better just to go ahead and get the better GPU or to run slower cards in SLI? Ive heard mixed rumors, plus add in the fact that DX10 is on the horizon I kind of want to be prepared ya know.

They are only good if you have big, high resolution monitors. Otherwise, SLI is overrated.

But ive seen improvements at 1280 X 1024 in NFSC and BF2 using SLI as opposed to a single 7900GT. Thats my monitors max for now and I dont really plan on upgrading that either.
