Titan is $1,000 to $1,200 depending on vendor and model (I think more expensive now). You can buy a 7970, which comes with some awesome games, for under $400! Titan has on average 30% increase in performance over a 7970 for 300% the cost. That isn't poor price/performance scaling, that is getting ripped off and screwed by a company, period.
Now that 30% isn't factoring in Overclock potential; Titan can OC, but not to the same degree that a 7970 can, you have a 7970 that OC's well, that average performance of 30% starts to dwindle.
I'm just curious how are you getting 300% the cost? First you overestimate the price of Titan, then you underestimate the price of the 7970GHZ which is $449.
AMD's 6GB 7970 GE card is $579, which is the most comparable 7970 to Titan's 6GB.
That means that a Titan is 72% more, for 35% better performance, not too shabby. Much better than Intel's 3930K vs 3960X price increase.
Also, you may want to check your math, since most 7970 GE's are $449, and Titan is $1000. That's a 122% price increase
. Obviously 122% price increase doesn't justify a 35% performance increase, but that's not the point, I'm just correcting your 300% claim.
($1000-$449)/$449*100 <<< This is the proper formula to use to determine a percentage increase
, someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Right now, a $1000 Titan costs 122% more than a $449 7970 GHZ edition, that's the proper analogy.
I'm not sure where you're getting $1200 from anyway, when Titan starts at $1000, .
The most expensive is $1069 with a T-Shirt, mouse pad and slightly OC'd.
Even if you went with $400 for a 7970, Titan is 150% more, which is still half of your 300% claim.
Titan is still a terrible price / performance card, but at $1000, it was never meant to be the King of Price / Performance. But rather, the King of PURE performance this generation.Edited by 2010rig - 4/12/13 at 2:41pm
