Custom or AIO - Page 3

What's your ambient room temp? If you were in a 33C room, that wouldn't be a bad idle temp. Are you saying you're at 42C with the CPU at no overclock, with C1E/Speedstep enabled?

Not sure about MSI bios settings, but on ASUS boards, "Optimized" defaults enable some of the AUTO overclocking settings. I think the "Load Fail-Safe Defaults" option sets things to a non-OC baseline.

Ambient for me is about 22c, I think. I have no way of measuring it

The temp probe somewhere on my motherboard reads 35c after sitting at idle for a few minutes.

Aaaaaaaand there's the problem. thumb.gif
These things die over time....
There IS evaporation through the tubing and body of all of the plastic and rubber parts on AIOs, and it may take two or three years, but it DOES happen.

I had an old H80 on my 2500K, and it kept an idle below 32 (in a hot room), but at the end of it's life (3 months ago) it was idling at 45. In fact the ambient was colder, while no OC was applied at the time. It was about two years old at the time... So yours is past it's prime, for sure!

They just die, brother... rolleyes.gif

Put on the black suit, bury it, have the wake, and start putting parts in a FCPU shopping cart. It will hurt like the dickens, but you'll LOVE it later!

So, what's the best I can get that will fit in my case?

Oh Lord, see, I'm new to custom too, having moved from AIOs (as I just mentioned), so direct this into a general watercooling thread, or wait like a buzzard for other more experienced WCs to come along!

I can always copy-paste my build in here, but it's for a case that is dissimilar to yours, so it isn't going to help you much... plus money is no object for me right now. rolleyes.gif
