How much better is crossfire? - Page 3

The last link is the most telling. You'd note that in most games when the cards are actually running at full speed (not 625) they beat the GTXs by a large margin.

The first link is pretty good, however they mysteriously have their GTX at 700/650 core speed and mysteriously have the XTX memory at lower than 1550.... not even 1500 in fact.

The second link is next to worthless as it's from 5 years ago. That's like judging todays HDTV's by the CRTs made by the same company 5 years ago. (Okay I'm exaggerrating but you get the point)

In the end, the ATI cards seem to have the most OC room as well seeing as how they routinely pull upwards of 720 even on stock cooling.

The last link is a good one, as you can choose settings on the games(although i noticed a large amount of AA is missing on a few of those settings. Its like they didn't want to test the games on MAX settings?); as for ATI having more oc room, well, ATI tool has always been pretty good at stomping riva and the downloadable version of coolbits(im currently testing a custom version of coolbits that enable SLI overclocking !!!). Further more i dont really agree with the test machine they used it on(i think a 680i board or a i975 would perform better and really show off what these cards can pull off. like a badaxe or a striker).

(not a 100% accurate)
This is a perfect example of CF not being worth it as you can get a x1950Pro for cheaper and its a MUCH better card.

I have read reviews of the X1950 Pro cards running in crossfire.
These reviews show these cards paired and running the proper drivers, will perform along side about any setup (video card setup) out there.

Remember two of these cards will cost less than one of the latest and greatest cards out there.
Bang for the Buck is tops with these cards.

But with DX 10 (the 800,000,000 3dmark gorilla on the desktop as it were) you're looking at upgrading again within a year so it really comes down to a question of... frugality?.

All in all I would say debating which standard is better is a moot point, becuase it really is dependent on the card and the two companies will always one up each other with better cards, which by their very nature will outperform previous CF or SLI setups. It's apples vs oranges in the CF vs. SLI battle, and both are equally delicious, just at different times of the year IMO.

Waiting out the details on the r600 is killing me. The bastards are doing it on purpose. They keep the talk vague and what little does come out is stupidly great sounding but will it really be that great? Reading about the Xbox 360 GPU and how it's not even as good as what the r600 is I can't just jump ship to the G80's yet. It sounds like the R600 is to the G80 what the G80 currently is to the X1950XTX.... faster... much faster.

GAH! I believe that both Nvidia and ATi are great GPU makers but I tend to side with the littler guy ... ATi. I'm kind of tired of nvidia fanboys crapping all over ATi as it is with SLI versus Xfire which is perfectly catagorized by Redfroth above (both are great, with no dongle and the extra refinement being released now, in the future SLI will certainly not be any better though that doesn't mean SLI will be worse).

Now this G80 coming out THIS FAR before the R600 is really giving those fanboys a lot of ammunition as well. They are right though, in the sense that Nvidia unquestionably has the fastest card right now.
