because the system can't run 64bit games ? right ?!!

if that is the case then it's simple 3gb for games and 3.5gb for system smile.gif

Yes unified arch, 1 GB is reserved for the operating system and background tasks. the rest is free for everything else meaning 7GB is available to developers to play with, not 4GB like you are suggesting.

Looking forward to see what devs can do with this. I really hope GT6 launches as a release title for PS4 rather than PS3 as previously speculated!

I understand gaming PC's can already out perform these consoles... but we should accept that the Playstation has its place as a compact media/games machine with a quite attractive ease of use smile.gif

Looks good thus far!

I think he's suggesting that the OS and overhead will be 1GB, 3GB will be for VRAM, and the other 4GB will be for regular use, like our PC's RAM is.

Am I the only one that gathered that?

I'm thinking this is why Nvidia released Titan with 6GB of memory. They see the writing on the wall and by the time PS4 is out video cards with less VRAM than consoles will look ridiculously outdated...

Why on earth would a console need 4GB of system memory? Its not as though it'll be running Windows...

Unlike consoles PC's move at such a pace that by the time any game uses the Titan's 6GB the card will be greatly underpowered, think 2GB HD 4870/GTX260.

We won't see the benefit from this for about a couple of gens when you consider the avg user (not someone on OCN,Hard,Anand,EVGA,OCUK,ect) still has 1GB on the gpu (guessing here but it might be lower frown.gif ).

But yeah it's great for us and I'm sure we'll get a game or two here in the next couple but I don't see anything (non modded/1080) going past 3GB within the next few years.

Future proof. Also current gen consoles suffer greatly from ram limitations, so they put a ton in the PS4 so that it wouldn't have that problem. They can also afford to as RAM is much cheaper than it used to be (mind you the XDR Ram in the PS3 is naturally costly, but there we go)

As for the recording part of the PS4: I could easily see Sony going with a tweaked h264 codec for recording, since itis very efficent and uses less space than a mpeg4-codec (a proper set up h.264-codec in DXtory takes up about 22-25 GB's for an hour of recording).
That would actually be quite possible, since the h.264-codec works extremely well with the BD/PD-architecture.
Now, I don't know how it will work with the Jaguar, since it's architecture ïsn't exactly the same as BD/PD's, but I could see it scaling very well.
