ASUS P5P43TD PRO // Overclocking failed

Hello OC

I am new to the concept of overclocking and have actually not even yet ventured out into the subject.
The reason for this post is that after purchasing new RAMs for my rig, it wont cooperate with my system.

When i put in my new stick of 8gb ram, along wih the old 2x2gb of RAM i have, the startup shows a message with "overclocking failed". I can chose to go to setup or continue with standard setup (or someting like that)
It also starts up everything for a few second, and then it shuts down, after a few seconds it starts and shows the message.

When i try and put only the new RAM stick, it wont even show an image. If i try with the old RAMs it works just like it used to.

My Motherboard allows for high speed components (orange slots, look at the link further down), but if i try and use the new stick of RAM in such a slot, it is just not registered.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

The motherboard i have is P5P43TD PRO
The Processor i have is Intel quad Q9550 2.83ghz
The Old RAM i have are 2x OCZ DDR3 PC3-10666 / 1333MHz / Reaper HPC / Triple Channel Kits / CL 9
The new RAM i purchased are G.Skill NT 8 GB, DIMM 240-pin, DDR3, 1333 MHz / PC3-10600, CL9, 1.5 V
The graphic card i have is geforce GTX670

Running the 3rd ram dimm is not a good idea. It will not be in dual channel mode. The orange slots more likely suggest which 2 slots to use if you are only using 2 dimms. Using more than 2 dimms will reduce your ability to over-clock the ram. To the best of my knowledge 1333 is overclocked for that CPU but I am def not a Q9550 pro.

I would highly recommend to you that you return the new ram and purchase a 2x4GB or 2x8GB kit.

Again the single 8GB dimm will not be running at peak performance since peak performance would be 2 matched dimms in dual channel mode.

Hope that helps some... you can sell the ram you have on ebay and you can pick up new ram for dirt cheap.

Also, did you mean that you have the dual channel version of the triple channel kit that you listed or did you just end up not using the 3rd dimm? You say you have 2x of that ram and your motherboard isn't triple channel so I am just wondering.

In this situation i mean that i have only the RAM sticks and not the actual kit. What i am mostly trying to do in this situation is to get it to work in the first place, since my system does not seem to register the 8GB stick for some reason...

with a max memory supported being 16GB, my bet is that the board does not support 8 GB DIMMS, would be better off with a 2x4GB kit rather than 1x8GB anyways

Thank you for the feedback, it seems that my motherboard will not take in the stick alone, needing 2x ram sticks at a time. I have made a case for my money back and will get 2x4gb sticks. Thank you! biggrin.gif
