Project: Crazy Air E6300 [help needed] - Page 2

Hi all,

I was wondering what you guys think about this Thermaltake TR2 PSU (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...2E16817153023). It as 18A on the 12v rails. What do I need more power for? I'm powering a CD drive, SATA HD, 2 80mm fans, 1 120mm fan (REGULAR, not even high power), XFX 6800GT.

I don't see why I need a higher end PSU. I will OC the CPU but I still think this will do the job.

Other thoughts? Just trying to save $50

18A?

Ok... I'm still alive after that one... barely.

You do need somewhat more than that if yuo even *think* about overclocking that CPU. You'll need a couple of Amps (let's say 2A) just to run the rig, 5.5A for the CPU at stock (and a good bit more when overclocked...), about 4A for that 6800, about 2A for the HDD, 2A for the optical, and 2A for the fan circus (guessing that last one). That's 17.5A stock speeds on the 12V rail. forget overclocking; it's tight as it is.

Plus, it's a ... Thermaltake... ugh.

Eh.. I got a thermaltake 430w in my sig rig powering a 7900GT KO and a D5 pump with 2 huge 108cfm sunons on the rad. I've overclocked both gpu and cpu too..

Even though its thermaltake so far its lasted alot longer than this junk antec that just died the other day. (the antec was on another pc I have)

btw: I have a 350w PSU powering another rig with a gigabyte 6800gt, 2 hard drives, 2x 90mm fans, 120mm fan, 2x dvd roms, and a AMD 2x4400+ overclocked.

I dono why he needs anymore power than 450w at the most.
So save him some money.

Well.. I think you convinced me. Best PSU for < $ 100 ? To keep right on the budget, it's gotta be around $90.55 shipped.

That first PSU you reccomended me earlier is out of stock..

Oh and about the memory, should I keep this new stuff for my sig rig (E6600) and put my 3-3-3-8 DDR2 667 in Crazy Air?

Man, and I forgot that I need to buy a HS.. so $90.15 for both. Damn. BT + PSU ?

If you're overclocking the E6300 with D9 ram I suggest you go with Biostar TForce 965PT. I've witnessed first hand that the Gigabyte Boards (S3 in my case) hits a hard wall around 460FSB with D9 (though I'm not sure that your ram is D9 based.

It's a documented problem, see:

I'm actually buying the DS3. I have a DS3 and a E6300 that hits 3.0ghz on it's way. (Was Orthos primed 9 hours)

I don't plan on OCing this rig that much, like I said before.. probably up to that 3ghz that it can do but past that I don't think I'm going to try. (Yes I understand that I'm going from 1.83ghz stock to 3ghz which is a huge jump )

EDIT:

Updated parts list.. still dunno whether to dish out cash for BT or TT..

Also I ordered an 8800GTX for my current sig PC.. (the C2D) and I put the current X1900XT in to my opty system and the 6800GT is going in to this C2D system.

Hand me downs.. thas how we roll.

Hey all...

I'm having a problem putting this thing together. The PSU is not dead because I tested it on other systems and I tested other PSUs on this system. Whats happening - when I put the 12v connector in the mobo, nothing responds when I turn it on.. no click or power noises or anything. When I remove it, everything powers on normally (but the video card doesn't respond, so nothing showing up on the screen)..

I tried 4 different PSUs with this

Any ideas?

Alright sweet. The build is done, pics will come soon (as soon as I get it to where I won't have anyone complaining about my wiring )

But I am having a few problems:

1) I have to "push-start" the NV5 silencer and the BT fan (which I am going to put the Silverstone on soon cause I already OCd the CPU to 2.93ghz from stock. Why would I have to "push-start" the fans?

2) What should I set the MGE voltage to? Is that the voltage for the north bridge (is that what it's even called now?) And that piece is HELLA hot.. I meen freakin burn my hand to the touch hot... And I -think- the MGE voltage is for that.

Well Happy New Year and thanks ahead for any help.
