The recommended (and probably the easiest) way to do this is a clean install.

How? For one I don't have a copy of Windows 8 and I'm trying to avoid it as I'm buying a SSD in addition to the laptop and Windows 8 is expensive.

Anyone know any deals? The prices on newegg for a single user license are insane..

An easy way would be to clone the drive. Try Acronis TrueImage.

Why don't you save all your important data on another HDD and install windows 8 clean?

As I've said several times I don't have a copy of Windows 8, and if I were to buy one I'd want at least a three user license but it's so damn expensive for even a single user license that ugh.

I don't understand what you need then. It seems unclear. Your laptop came with windows 8 installed? If so, couldn't you just download the same windows 8 version that is already installed on your laptop, install it on your new SSD and use the product key that came bundled with your laptop?

Yes, it works as long as you use it on the same hardware. I've done it plenty of times.

Anyone know if there is a way to grab the product number off the computer? They're censoring the first four digits when I look at it under Windows activation due to it being OEM
