Thanks for helping I have found out something I think that was causing my problem follow along here: my stock cpu reads like this pentium 4 520 2.8ghz / 1m/800 04A The one I ordered & had the incompatibility issue with reads like this pentium 4 660 3.6 2m /800 04B. AM I right to assume that the 04A and 04B is the determining factor for which cpu 's will be compatible with my system? I also dug up this little gem which looks like the top contender for my upgrade kungfu.gif the pentium 4 650 3.4ghz 2m/800 04A .

From what I've gathered reading other forums is that your motherboard will only support pentium 4 5xx cpus, so no 6xx support or 5xx plus a letter (e.g. 570j).

You need a 5XX chip like this

http://www.ebay.com/itm/OEM-Intel-Pentium-4-P4-570-570J-SL84Y-SL82U-Desktop-CPU-Processor-LGA775-3-8GHz-/120872882687?pt=CPUs&hash=item1c2495d1ff

Or another 5XX chip

EDIT: Didn't notice the J so this one wont work but you get the idea

I think the J versions are not supported as well, it has to be a straight 5xx

So there has been a mislabeling some time ago tongue.gif

What are you going to do with the P4 660?

I guess send it back to the guy i bought it from or maybe exchange it for one I could use the 650 would be my first choice because of the increased cache
