Which RAM you need to get depends on the mobo. Check what the max amount of supported RAM is (you do have the manual..right?) and which type of RAM it needs. You currently have 512MB RAM (it reads a bit lower since the video card shares the RAM and thus leaves less for the system RAM).

And it's probably 200-Pin DDR SO-DIMM. A 512MB stick of that stuff costs around $50 or so.

Check the laptop's specs for what type and speed of RAM is supported.

DDR Pc2700 (166 MHz) 256 Mbytes. There are 3 slots on the motherboard and 2 of them are taken by 2 256 mb sticks. It does not tell me what pin or whatever. Ill try and check the manual

I am pretty sure its the type I mentioned earlier: 200-Pin DDR SO-DIMM

If the max speed is DDR333 (PC2700), get two 512MB sticks of that. If the max speed is DDR400 (PC3200), get two 512MB sticks of that.

The increase from 512MB to 1GB will be noticable, and for $100 or so, it's a nice upgrade.

For what you use the laptop for, I really don't think you'll need other upgrades.

You could also upgrade the hard drive, DVD drive, sound card with little difficulty.

When i get this laptop fixed, they will give me a new battery, new hard drive, and pritty much a whole new laptop, so i wont upgrade the other crap, i plan on just upgrading the memory. And if i could somehow make sure the psu doesnt break again...I HATE THIS PSU!

unfortunatly, you cant just pop in a new GFX card like desktops, you'd have to buy a whole new mobo... eg $300-$500 =\\

you can also get a sweet WLAN card if you dont already, either a PC card external, or a PCMIA internal... although some laptops only accept certain PCMIA cards.
