Which card?

Thread Starter
My 7950 flaked out on me so off to the RMA process. I don't necessarily need a card that strong so I have hunt down a few of today's better deals. Right now there isn't a 7950 that just screams buy me.

First is the XFX 7870 with two games that I would sell too http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150605

Next is the ASUS 660 ti, no games but a decent price http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121656

I can also get a 7870 MYST locally for 249 + tax with two games but I'm concerned with noise and temps with that card.

Please advise.

i would go with the Powercolor 7870 MYST, because when they are overclocked, they can perform as well as a 7950-7970. if the noise bugs you, you can always download MSI Afterburner and make a custom fan curve

If you have the resources why not buy a matching 7950 then crossfire post rma.

Have you looked at any of the reviews for the 650ti boost?

Honestly, not worth it especially since it's ASUS which is pretty bad as far as AMD GPUs this gen go (their version 1 cooler doesn't make contact, version two still uses a heatpipe design that is better for NVIDIA's square mounted dies than diamond mounted dies) Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
That's the price of HD 7870XTs... and $20-30 more gets you a HD7950.

edit: also see http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ASUS/HD_7870_Direct_Cu_II/25.html

...highly unusual for ASUS to be pushing 45dB, their NVIDIA GTX 670 cards are pushing 27dB roughly

So what's your recommendation then? Look at my recommendation, the first one I recommend the HD 7870 XT from Sapphire, but it's OOS now (don't know when Sapphire will re-stock the card). I search 7870 Hawk (Ghz and regular), then no luck (OOS again). I just follow the OP suit to choose between 7870 and 660 Ti (since he has the HD 7950 before).

I'm not familiar with the PowerColor (never have their card before), but if you believe that the MYST is good, then go for it.

Edit : and The ASUS card I recommend was the Version 2 , though. Don't know if ASUS has changed their cooler.

OP what are you going to do when you get the HD 7950 replacement back. sell it ? do you have onboard graphics or a spare card. if you do use it till you get the replacement. alternatively get a sapphire hd 7950 when it comes back in stock. when you get the replacement card back run it in CF or keep the card which you like and sell the other. you can sell the game coupons too if you don't want to play the games.
