Assistance with overclocking my 3770K and fine tuning, please?

Thread Starter
I have a de lidded 3770K. I am not sire if I have a really bad chip or something else. Currently I'm at 4.4 GHz stable with 1.27vcore. Any lower results I'm bsod or P95 crashing entirely.

I can get it to 4.5 but that requires a huge jump in vcore , 1.35vcore to not crash P95.

Is there anything else i can fine tune? My temps are about 60 degrees C under load at 4.4, so i have head room. I didn't try anything up in the 1.4v area...but it won't even boot at 4.6 at 1.37v. I had it up to 4.45ghz by upping the blck, read that was a bad idea and moved it back to auto.

Currently using g.skill sniper 8gb (4 x 2gb) 11-11-11-24
Gigabyte sniper m3
Enermax revolution 1020W
Corsair h100i

Everything set to auto except core clock and v core in bios. Tried easytune6 and it resulted in an unstable system after the first reboot.

Default voltage in bios is about 1.22v which is pretty high..

Not much you can try lowering your PLL over voltage to 1.7-1.75 to see if that effects anything but it just seems like you have a below avg chip frown.gif
Small wonder.

Thats what I figured :-(. I The default PLL was 1.8, lowering it to 1.7 still resulted in stability at 4.4 ghz. Even though my BCLK is set at 100, it shows 99.79 in bios, bumping it up to 100.01 raises it to 100.05 in bios. Another strange thing.

I would love to get 4.5 or higher out of this chip...would running it at 1.33v be harmful to it if I can keep the temps under control?

Edit: can't even get 4.7ghz stable at 1.45V. :-(

Bumping this up a bit..

Currently this is what I can get to stable. PLL is at 1.7, resulted in lower temps

4.4 - 1.27 vcore. Temps spike up to 66 degrees C in prime 95, hover around 63-64
4.5 - 1.33 vcore, temps spike up to 71 degrees C in prime 95, but hover around 65-68
4.6 - 1.385 vcore, temps spike up to 78 degrees C in prime 95, hover around 70-72.

Currently I am running on 4.5, but just figured i'd ask if it would hurt to run at 4.6 at that voltage? Or should I just back it down to 4.4 and play it safe?

Thanks guys!

Wouldn't hurt at all besides it being just a tad bit warm in the room. lol.

Just prime95 that chip 12+ hours to be stable!
Small wonder.

So..my next question is this.

The person who I purchased this from (who also De-lid it) is very knowledgeable, this is the exact CPU and board he was using, the only thing different is the ram and the power supply. He suggests I switch to an AX1200 since he was able to hit 4.8ghz at 1.29vcore on this exact chip with it.

Would switching my power supply really make that much of a difference? I just don't see that happening and would rather not drop $300 on something if I don't have to...

"Knowledgeable" suggest HUGE psu for no reason.

lol no it doesn't matter if the PSU in your sig is true then there isn't a point as yours is already overkill
Small wonder.

I was thinking that as well...but I just figured I'd ask since he was able to hit 4.8 at 1.29vcore on the same hardware I'm using (purchased it from him). Either way that saves me money so I'm happy tongue.gif haha.

Hate to come off rude but, did you see him actually have these overclocks? Ever in person or ever in a photo?
You would have to start questioning his "knowledge" if he suggested a component that would in no way affect your overclock. Your psu could already handle more video cards and more components so what would be the point in getting a stronger psu if you already dont utilize the 1000+watts on yours? biggrin.gif

GL with the overclock mate thumb.gif
what kind of LLC settings you running?

Ha, believe me I have thought this many times. Almost 90% sure its just a below average chip..changing the board or PSU would just be a waste of money I think.

Edit: Found the LLC, was under 3D settings. Currently its set to 'auto'. The only other options are "Low, medium, high, turbo, extreme". No idea what any of them does honestly or what I should try setting them to for the best results?

I think his point on the power supply was, mine has 4 seperate 12v rails vs the single 12v rail of the newer PSU's. Not sure if that changes anything or not honestly.
