I came from a WMO > MX500 > MX 518 > G5> G9 > G700 And I loved every transition.

I play CS 1.6 Not really competitively before but when i had my G5 I was heavily involved in CAL - I and even CEVO P. Never had a problem with my mouse giving me Accel or some sorts.

I guess I am just one of those people that never noticed it.

I usually play at 3200 DPI/1khz Polling with a sensitivity of 1.2 in game.

my G700 Is super fantastic Love the top toggle between hyper scrolling and regular.

Never had a problem with wireless either. I don't know just lucky i suppose. Maybe ill get a G400s just to see what the difference in feel is.
The s variant has a 4,000 C.P.I. setting that reportedly had "ripple". Does the non-s G400 have ripple at its 3,600 C.P.I. setting?

You are telling me lol. Was just going to get a g400 to get back into optical to see what all the hype is about vs having a "Super terribad laser" mouse.
Small wonder.

Your current mouse is going to track more accurately. Laser mice are not upgrades. They offer some advantages, but mostly just DPI, which you don't need. You're much better off sticking to an optical mouse. If you want to pick up a new mouse with some added features, try a CM Storm Recon. They are really nice and have onboard memory, which the g400 does not. That is the main reason I switched to it.

From what I remember, movement felt a lot smoother with that mouse, than with the MX518 or G400. I love my G400--don't get me wrong, but I was just curious as to whether or not there was anything better.

A lot of people would consider that "smoothness" a bad thing. After all you don't want the mouse tracking on its own, you want it to track perfectly every twitch and small movement your fingers/wrist/arm does (at least that's the way I think a precise mouse should work).
Also, the G500 has a linear correction option (aka prediction or angle snapping), and, as the name says, it straightens the trajectory of the cursor in "linear-like" movements. Maybe that's what you felt like "smoother". There are mice that offer the linear correction option within an optical sensor like the CMStorm Spawn.
