Morag Tong in what's left of Morrowind, College of Winterhold in Skyrim, the various Guilds all over the place, etc) as well as player run guilds that you can do quests for.

The levelling system is the only bit that's actually hard to figure out, I figure have it use levelled lists based on a radius around each player...So if a level 20 player is in an area, enemies comparable to him would be near him, but a level 1 could still run away if necessary.
Also, make the NPCs have an actual living continent..It'd require massive amounts of server power to actually do, but it'd be awesome if pulled off correctly, think of it like two random NPCs can end up together, have a kid (Or more) who grows up as the ingame time passes and does the same, all being affected by player actions. (eg. NPC A gets in a massive argument and brawl with NPC B or even another player, and then gets the Dark Brotherhood to pay them a visit..which is actually done by another player)

Sorry but i'm not convinced.

TES was always about the "one" hero, the player, who through their own choices influenced the fate of many through some main questline. This is impossible to do in an MMO - not everyone can be "The one" and have such a huge impact over others. TES is and never will be MMO material, because it's always been better than that. It catered to the player, and that is a crucial thing for an enjoyable immersive experience, something MMO's often lack (Most of my friends who play MMO's can't even explain to me the storyline or what their current quest involves. They just grind and perform their duties like machines because it's all the game requires.)

At the very most, TES would've been able to provide cooperative mode over internet/lan. Consisting of about 4 players who can aid someone in their single player campaign with quests (just like Boarderlands). Following them like a NPC companion would. But then NPC companions were half-arsed in Skyrim as is.

A clear example of this is how most NPC companions follow you around into restricted area's, no acknowledgement from other NPC's or at least a simple "Sorry, but only you may enter, they'll have to wait" or the fact that companions set off traps - ALWAYS, like as though their AI isn't accommodated for such wizardry.. Companion dialogue was predictable at best, and non-existent at worse. Thank goodness for mods is all i can say. If it was properly done, an online coop mode could've been more feasible - and actually, pretty cool.

MMO's just arn't my genre. Too many companies make mmo's to cash in, and consequently don't innovate or attempt to push any boundries for a more unique and fun gameplay experience. Not for TES. At least the hud wasn't too bad in the video though, but then i'd wager it wouldn't take long before it had one looking like this:

I'd have more fun looking at a Microsoft Excel speadsheet.

GW2 is the only MMORPG I have seen push the boundaries of the traditional envelope so far... Sadly it fell short in the most needed areas. Enemy captures are only restricted to very small havens at most, and the biggest enemy swarm in PvE I've seen is less than 10 guys...

I was expecting real armies coming to attack perhaps not the major cities (but honestly, why not?), but at the very least the large fortresses scattered throughout the map. I was expecting true war machinery being used by enemy forces to destroy walls, houses, or other stuff in the PvE environment, which later on, if recaptured, requieres players to pick supplies from the environment to help reconstruct these places.

It was, perhaps, the only thing I felt GW2 lacked to be the perfect PvE MMO.

The PvP and skill system has another issue of itself, but that isn't as critical.

pretty much what I expected when I learned of this project and I'm not surprised.

This will be F2P within months.

Either way this definitely isn't getting anymore of my attention.

I feel like I have to go shower or something because this video stinks so bad.............

Yeah, even i was a little hyped for GW2, hoping it would "Break the mold" but then a friend got it and i felt it fell short in a number of area's you describe. It was a nice step forward, but didn't quite cut it for me to justify playing (or rather, attempt to play) an MMO.

My friend mastered the game in a few short months, and ran out of things to do. The initial price for the game wasn't exactly cheap, either - but at least it didn't require a sub. Still, not my cup of tea.

I much prefer the single player experience that TES satisfies. It's a dying breed, which is a shame because it always satisfies a need most online games can never cater to. Lets face it, it's not like there isn't a market for single player games, as Skyrim wasn't exactly unsuccessful. It's just a simple case of developers wanting easy money.

Graphics are not very good and the animations are downright pathetic. How bout making npcs look like theyre actually looking at me when in a convo rather then looking over my shoulder out into space, making crude gestures/movements.

Limited, but seamless. It's one of the aspects you cannot criticize of GW2.

I like GW2, I gave it a higher rating for the publication I worked over Mists of Pandaria, and I do not "criticize" it. It's combat system is nice, more fresh than WoW's but its nowhere near the skillshots in TES.There is plenty of room for variation there.

Ok after actually watching a copy of the vid a member was nice enough to send to me, I see where everyone is coming from. How did we go from this

to the 90's crap portrayed in the alpha/beta?

I must ask, can we even be sure this video is of the closed beta and not when the game was in early development. I vaguely remember hearing from the devs that you'd be able to see your characters hands while in first person.

Has anybody actually considered that the video may have been captured using low-ish ingame graphics settings?

Edit: Nevermind, just watched the bit where he brings up the graphics menu.

That's bad.

The difference between this guy's footage and Bethesda's is that there's absolutely zero postprocess in here. Skyrim without postprocessing looked horrible, worse than Oblivion.

But it's not really the graphics what turns me down. It's the animations and combat. Those look hideous, and so old it's not even funny.
