Buy a 7970 now or wait? - Page 2

Now I have a new problem... Just came across their 7950 for $80 less than their 7970: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1917611&Sku=P450-7955 I'm assuming I can overclock it to perform equivalent to the 7970. That's a fairly large savings for a card that's not much slower than the 7970.

I see you already made your purchase. I still want to weigh in on the "waiting game"...

If you play the waiting game and buy brand new, expensive, untested hardware, you will pay through the nose for a crappy performance/cost ratio and growing pains. It actually makes more sense to wait for the current gen hardware to drop in price, even if there is a major release coming. PC hardware isn't like console hardware. There aren't games that work exclusively on one graphics card or on another CPU. They will still work fine.

Please consider the "ooh, shiny" factor here, and then don't let it hook you. Get what you need now, and let the future worry about itself.

Now is probably a very good time to buy a 7970. I would not wait for the next hardware to come out and then wait some more for it to be reasonably priced. By then, you will start playing the waiting game on the next-next gen hardware.

Ultimately, you're caught in the waiting game if you are weighing the options of feeling like you paid too much or feeling like you had to settle. Make your decision with no regrets and then do what everyone else does...

...defend your choice to the Internet as justifiably the right one while making sure everyone else is wrong....

I actually went with this one from SuperBiiz, since they didn't charge me tax: http://www.superbiiz.com/detail.php?name=AT-7950BST

I think I'll be extremely happy with it. Can't wait to start using it.

If you have money left for more upgrades how about a new PSU?

Sapphire 7950 in any form is an awesome card. I use it for 1440 gaming and have yet to drop any detail levels on any games I play from what I used at 1080.
