And then everyone realized....it was a 250 dollar NIC.....
I really dont believe its so much that this card is GOOD, its more like that the windows network stack is JUST THAT BAD. I wouldn't be surprised if some windows update for vista could improve performance by the same margin.
Again, I cant bash the addition of a few FPS. After all, some people are willing to spend 400 dollars MORE on a processor for marginal FPS gains. The same goes with ram, and virtually every other part. But in the age of stretched budgets from Physx cards and every other add-in you can imagine, I dont see this ever being feasible at the 250+ dollar price point.
Frankly, I find it very hard to believe that we would be paying for anything but the startup cost of this company. They are using an onboard processor, sure, but it probably doesnt require a 65nm process by any means. And what memory it has isn't the best in the industry. So where is this money going? I would be hard pressed to believe this technology is any more advanced than the X-fi Fatal1ty, and the Xfi isn't even that expensive.
Just one more toy for sponsored people to get, rich people to waste their money on, and broke college students to dream for. Bleh.
