Drawer for less used icons? You mean a folder? That has been there since Win 3.1
People that require the desktop to function aren't utilizing Win8, IMO. Any important, often used program can be pinned to the home screen. Which replaces the need for the desktop. Any other program you don't really want an icon for but sometimes use you can search for it just typing in the home screen. It beats the old start bar hands down. Start... programs....program name... launch program is so old and slow.
Nope, not a folder.
The start menu is a clean and uncluttered (for me at least) way of keeping all my other icons out of the way. The problem with Win 8 that I have is that a lot of the programs I use a lot of dump into the desktop screen even if they're pinned to the home page. That's mostly an issue of a lot of programs not having been designed for Win 8. That's fine. Classic shell is around. That's fine too. The computer I have Win 8 on works fine for me but my productivity computer sees the start menu used a lot, especially to open recent documents and projects. Window 8 has some of that, but in a search format. It's less effective to click- typetypetype-click than it is to click-click-click. Further, I like that the start menu keeps its icons in confined space rather than scattered all over the length of several screens.
I'm not adverse to change. I love Windows RT on my tablet, and the PC that has Win 8 on it works fine for me since it's mostly for movies and music, but there's no way I can organize the Win 8 work space into something clean and usable.
