amd phemon x4 II 955be overclocked at 4ghz vs fx 4300 - Page 5

Looks good from the quick research I just got through doing on the board. I guess the only thing you may want to do when you get it is flash the bois to the most up to date one so you won't have any compatibility issues. But other than that the features of that board are nice. Only thing I would have wanted on it was a coaxial digital audio port but mine doesn't even have that.lol

But I agree with rdr09 on the overclocking comment. Lean closer to the Sabertooth if overclocking is where you want to live. Light overclocking should be ok though.

Also keep in mind that the mobo is one of if not the most important purchase you'll make in a rig because it will determine how much you can upgrade and how far you can push the components you put on it. In short, try to make whatever you get something that won't limit you in the long run

and yea i will be overclocking so i will get the Sabertooth board and it will match my cpu cooler

I've only overclocked to around 3.8ghz but that was a while ago. At the time I didn't have the mobo, cooler, I didn't have any of the stuff I have now.lol But I mainly just wanted to see what I could do plus I was new to overclocking and I wanted to play around and have fun achieving greatness. biggrin.gif

Dual channel is better.

Make sure you buy you ram in sets so they are warrantied to work together. If you don't then make sure to purchase ram of the same make and model. Just rules of thumb. I've matched non matching ram before that worked in dual channel mode but the stability wasn't there for as long

Also the notcua nh-d14 will work with the Sabertooth fine. Just make sure you have clearance for your ram as that's a rather large cooler biggrin.gif

Lastly, someone mentioned earlier that you may want to add an SSD to get more out of your system and showcase how your 955 is still a beast. They're right about that. I upgraded my mobo, ram, and even my gpu but I didn't see as much of a change till I got my first SSD. It brought my system from a like a 4 or 5 to the 7 plus score I have now. Plus everything is simply faster. I went from min and a half or longer start up times to 34 seconds and ready to browse the internet startup times. No exaggeration thumb.gif

I updated my earlier response to include some good info from other members. Hope it all helps. If so reps are an Overclock members friend biggrin.gif

Just out of curiosity you DO have the C3 Stepping Phenom as the C2 doesn't overclock as high. Just thought I'd throw that out there

cool. I look forward to hearing how your system does after you get done with some of the upgrades.

Good luck and always feel free to ask questions when in doubt. I may not have all the answers but we here as a group are pretty close to being the best bet for a good response. OC.N till I die thumb.gif

Are you freaking serious? A 3.1GHz i3-2100 is not very far off the 955 and in fact it's actually overall ahead and if you look at the Pentium chips it gets worse! i3 2.1GHz laptop? You've got to be kidding me man

1min 34secs is not normal for a desktop ... my last HDD build on a desktop took 20secs bootup time ...
And also 34 secs?! ON A SSD?! How in the world ... did you manage to get it to be THAT slow, i hope you're not including BIOS load time
