Should I buy the Deathadder 2013? Fed up with Taipan.

Thread Starter
First if like to start off saying I own a Razer Copperhead and a Lachesis and have never owned an optical mouse. I had recently purchased a Taipan which is great but I had to return it. The first one I got was a defective left click and the replacement one I have now scrapes the mouse pad where the laser is and where the wire connects to the mouse itself.(Wire has barely any clearance) I'm basically fed up with it and I've read everywhere about the new death adder being great. I want to know the following:

-How is the quality? Does it feel solid?
-How good is the optical sensor compared to the dual-sensor?
-Are the detente in the scroll wheel hard like the Steel Series Sensei or more tactile like the taipan?

Have you looked into Logitech mouses? Personally I use the Logitech G500 and it can really handle a hard fight, and feels great in my hand. Fair priced too I would say!

The quality should be solid if you won't happen to get a unit from the first batch (had a small gap between the shell parts near the rear screw, sensitive RMB, and some other issues).

I think that standard optical sensor is technically less precise than the Twin-Eye, but it doesn't suffer as much bugs as the latter does. The sensor completely satisfies me in terms of performance (Quake Live, mid-low sens). Has tiny curve smoothing effect, no noticeable jittering and the LoD is about 1mm on Goliathus Speed (with thick custom mouse feet).

The scroll wheel encoder is mechanical, and from the pictures it seems to be the same as the one in Sensei. However, the scroll wheel is rather tactile than hard, so I could be wrong.

Why do you think the G500 is bad? Me and many others are using it and often prefer it over any Razer, all my Razer mouses have died on me within a year, while my Logitechs have lasted forever.
I also think the G500 is far superior when it comes to how it is to hold, but this is a matter of preference. Oh and Logitech has awesome support!

Maybe the sensor quality is why. While it may be not the only significant factor in the mouse qiality, it is important for many users here, as well as for ones engaged into intense gaming activity.

I have been a twitch gamer for many years, and never had any problems with either Razer or Logitech when it comes to that, but I always use good mouse pads too which is just as important.

I have tried a lot of mice, recently, including the DA 2013. Personally, I think it is okay, but it had a few manufacturing flaws, which does not bode well for Razer's history of QC. For Logitech mice, I am loving my g600, but have never tried the "lower-level" g mice. My favorite, however, is the Steel Series Sensei Fnatic. Fantastic mouse; great, slim, and light enough for quick movements. Looks nice, too smile.gif

That, as well as gimmicky sensor placement, heavy weight, rather stiff cord and impractical scroll wheel + side buttons

@granitov: That's another confirmation for the 2013 version smoothing, then? That's probably reason enough for me to get EC1 white to replace my black one, instead of DA.

...I'm really starting to dig the EC series now that I figured out my shape problems with EC1 were actually caused by slippery paint and not the shape itself

DA is still the best mouse I've ever owned.
