When people say apu, what do they mean? Sorry.. im not too familiar with that term . All i know is what i HAVE to or need to know. But apu? Is this supposed to mean it's for mobility gpus? (DID YOU JUST LOL??? I WILL CRUSH YOU)

Anyways, would love to hear from more users how these drivers are performing..

APU ( accelerated processing unit ) is a chip that includes CPU+GPU on the same die , it looks like the future is APU , single CPUs and GPUs will be long gone thanx to APUs since they cost less and perform better , so far AMD is the leader of APU and intel is trying to catch up ( intel CPUs are still on top of AMDs ) and it is used in notebooks and PS4+XBOX Next ( 720 if you like )

Theroetically, even intels desktop CPUs are APUs, as they have built in graphics.

However, a true APU has much tighter integration.

A lot of the traditional CPU functions get offloaded to the GPU cores...
that is correct but intel GPUs are not for hardcore gamers

anyway i'm going back to 13.3 since playing videos is kinda awkward after 13.x

Thereotically? Nope. They're just simply CPU+GPU. AMD called it a APU because they can use the GPU section for OpenCL apps like 7Zip. (Accelerated Processing Unit)
CPUs with built in GPUs without computing ability are simply just a CPU+GPU and they nowhere near useful even for 720p gaming unlike a A10-5800k

i'm using 4600m ( in APU with 7970m ) and it's pretty good for 1080 gaming
post #17 of 77
you say potato....

There is no requirement an APU must have openCL, although intels cpus absoutley do have opencl.(1.2 to be exact as of april)

An APU is simply a processor that combines CPU and GPU elements into a single architecture

Intels desktop chips qualify as an APU, they just refuse to use the terminology.

tried them out, to be honest i dont see much of a difference. The small graphical gliches in CS:GO and Starcraft 2 are still around. And the performance stayed on par.

No, just no. Intel CPU GPUs have absolutely no ability to accelerate OpenCL programs

What about just the APU itself? biggrin.gif

sorry, you are wrong.

Intel cpus support opencl 1.2

Again, not a requirement anyway.

Intel CPU are technically APUs anyway you slice it.

You may not like it, but that changes nothing.
