Not only were the DX11 effects vomit-inducingly bad, they ate up unfair amounts of performance. Using DX9 looked almost identical, even better, than DX11 and it doubled your framerate.I won't even get into PhysX.
Though I'm excited about LL, and we'll see what it has improved on, until then, I wouldn't get to worked up about these requirements.
not sure what was wrong with the physx. It really didn't add anything or hurt anything in the first game. In fact, I think it was actually run on the CPU. Other than that, only subtle differences could be spotted between Dx9 and Dx11, and it's unfortunate that those meticulous details require a lot of performance. Only real noticeable difference to me that I couldn't do without though was the volumetric lighting improvements with DX11 enabled. Completely helped set the mood of the scene.
Looking back at metro, Phsyx was fairly underused. Only added a little debris when shooting at a wall, added some destructible ice-sickles, and added some volumentric smoke from grenade explosions.Edited by lacrossewacker - 4/19/13 at 7:37am
